JOB SUMMARY:

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position.

Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.  In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) to perform both on and off ordnance equipment maintenance and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein.  Incumbent of this position will provide assistance in the following duties:  

 

Maintains, assembles, pre-loads, processes, and tests munitions and armament systems.

Performs troubleshooting duties on munitions and armament equipment.  
Performs armament and munitions serviceability inspection duties.
 Performs on/off equipment maintenance on Munitions Material Handling Equipment (MMHE) , support equipment, and Armament systems. 

Complies with safety and security requirements.   
Complies with all Federal, State, DOD, USAF, and local regulations concerning hazardous materials/waste munitions assets. 

Receives, stores, transports, secures and accounts for armament and munitions items.

Serves as the Wing focal point for Combat Munitions Plans and acts as technical advisor on ordnance related issues.

Plans and conducts training of reservists.Controls tools. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. 

Cleans work area and equipment.

Provides technical assistance to the Avionics Flight, and as required acts as an instructor in managing the Weapons Task Qualification Training Program at C-130 and Special Operations units.  

Serves as the Munitions Accountable System Officer (MASO).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Position may or will require incumbent to:

(1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Incumbent must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements.   Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.  (3) Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazardous material endorsement.  (4) Position requires that the incumbent obtain and maintain a Secret or Top Secret clearance, based on unit assignment.  (5) May be required to work uncommon tours of duty.  (6)  This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.  An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. (7) Work requires lifting and carrying various sizes weighing up to 45 lbs and over 80 lbs.  (8) Work requires pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, climbing, reaching, and walking.  (9) Incumbent is required to operate a crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle.  (10) Work is normally performed in outside and inside.  There is frequent exposure to excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness or chilling, dry atmospheric conditions, noise, intermittent, dust, solvents  (decreasing agents), grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy,  slippery or uneven walking surface.  Working around machinery with moving parts, objects or vehicles, and explosives.  (11) This is a testing designated position (TDP). Employee is subject to random drug testing.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:

Applications will be processed for rating after the close date of this announcement.  Processing time for applications is several weeks from the close date of this announcement.  Applicants will receive a Notice of Results (NOR) via Application Manager approximately 2 days after the announcement closes.  The rating on this NOR will be based strictly on your answers to the questionnaire.  You will receive another NOR via email once your application is rated by a Human Resources Specialist which may reflect a different rating from the initial notice.  Qualified candidates may be referred to the selecting official for further consideration.
