This position is located in the Utilities Branch, Public Works, Camp Lejeune, NC.  The incumbent is the “Operator-in-Charge” on second, third, and weekend shifts.

·         Operates wastewater treatment plants and pump stations in compliance with environmental permits and discharge requirement including the new 15 MGD advanced wastewater treatment plant that utilizes an activated sludge process with biological nutrient removal, ultraviolet disinfection, and advance sludge treatment processes for pathogen control.

·         Understands primary, secondary, tertiary, and advanced treatment processes and laboratory analysis required by these processes for treatment of domestic and industrial wastewater.

·         Checks and operates large outlying pump stations for conveyance of wastewater to the French Creek plant.

·         Serves as “operator in charge” for the plant on second, third, and weekend shifts, including ancillary wastewater treatment facilities.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.  Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is:   Ability to do the work of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator without more than normal supervision such as maintaining plant and pump stations equipment to ensure safe and proper operation, and prompt repair to prevent system failure; utilizing mechanical and electrical systems and operating principles to analyze equipment problems, determine repair requirements, identify material and parts needed, and use appropriate tools to execute work; and determines process control parameters such as feed rates, detention times, chemical addition, and mixing volumes to ensure proper performance of treatment systems and adjusts systems to ensure compliance with very stringent environmental permit discharge limits and regulations.

 

In addition to the screen-out element you will be evaluated on the following Job Elements through your resume and responses to the on-line assessment questionnaire:

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

 

Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

 

A valid state driver’s license is required.

 

A North Carolina Grade III or IV Wastewater Operator's Certification is required.

 

Physical is required.

 

Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects up to 100 pounds for short periods of times.

 

Subject to rotating, and irregular shifts, weekends, and holidays.
