DUTIES:

·        Manage and perform technical functions for the research and organizational consultation work for the Department of Behavioral Sciences. 

·        Conduct evaluations with mental health patients, administer psychological tests and questionnaires, assist with therapy groups, and conduct educational classes and prevention/outreach briefings and activities.

·        Assist credentialed providers with crisis intervention, group therapy and case management.  Provide crisis counseling.  Assist with therapeutic process groups.

·        Function as case manager for initiating and coordinating care with local inpatient facility for mental health treatment.  Coordinate care with other agencies.  

·        Conduct basic assessment procedures.   Assist credentialed providers in identifying mental health diagnosis. 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Duties and responsibilities vary and may increase according to grade level.

Salary may increase depending on the specialty of the position.

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level or equivalent pay band.   Specialized experience is described as work that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals.  Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists. OR  One full year of graduate education in a related field meets the requirements for the GS-07 level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):  Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 

 

1.  Knowledge of the principles, policies, practices concepts and regulations of mental health prevention and treatment programs.

 

2.  Knowledge of various basic therapy theories, intake and counseling techniques and their application to individual, families and groups counseling.

 

3.  Knowledge of common and well established medical record procedures and regulations to include administration, filing, researching, handling, securing and completing sufficient to provide properly filed and completed patient records.

 

4.  Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.

 

5.  Skill in conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns/issues, provide assistance in developing goals and plans, and determine appropriate referral services/options.

 

6.  Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interactions with individuals/families and with program representatives and officials.

 

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.  You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
