WORK SCHEDULE: 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM. You may be required to provide service evenings and weekends as needed.

 

This position may be filled at the GS-11, GS-12, or GS-13 grade level. Your salary and grade will be determined by a Professional Standards Board (PSB). The PSB is a peer review process. The PSB will review your individual qualifications, education, professional training/internship(s) and professional experience to determine the most appropriate salary and grade based on your individual accomplishments.

Duties

If you are selected for this position you will serve as a staff psychologist in the General Mental Health Clinic at the Kerrville Division of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS). In this capacity, you will offer mental health and substance abuse treatment services in the form of individual therapy, group therapy, and psychological assessment, and you will also provide consultation related to the treatment of Veterans with substance abuse related disorders. You will regularly collaborate with the Program Manager of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation and Recovery Program (SARRTP) coordinating services for Veterans.

Clinical Responsibilities include:

  • Providing a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including the use of psychological testing for veterans, in particular those with substance abuse/dependence issues
  • Performing psychological evaluations for individuals with substance use disorders for purposes of diagnostic clarification and treatment planning recommendations. These evaluations employ a comprehensive diagnostic interview, review of available records, collateral contact when available, as well as objective and cognitive tests when indicated
  • Providing a range of therapeutic interventions primarily with individuals with substance abuse/dependence, utilizing empirically supported cognitive behavioral modalities, harm reduction strategies, and AA approaches as indicated
  • Consulting with and serving as a resource for other professional personnel concerning the need for and development of psychological services for substance abuse/dependence
