The incumbent serves as an advisor to the Chief Information Security Officer on matters relating to security vulnerabilities and threats to CDC's computer systems. Incumbent develops corresponding security countermeasures necessary to protect technical, complex, sensitive and classified information processed on CDC computer equipment. Provides technical, support and assists in preparing and implementing policy guidance to CDC. Incumbent evaluates adequacy and/or develops new or revised information security policy, standards, and procedural guidance and support for the protection of information technology systems. Incumbent works closely with program and project activities to develop safeguards for the computers that are connected to CDC networks.

Incumbent reviews and analyzes technical aspects of proposals and integrity studies from CDC and CDC contractors to determine adequacy and ensures executive, statutory, regulatory and HHS requirements are effectively met. Incumbent keeps abreast of the latest developments and initiatives in the computer security arena. Researches security hardware/software and when appropriate, arranges vendor presentation guidance papers on security policy issues affecting the organization.  Incumbent participates in identification and analyses of CDC information security policy issues, deficiencies, and problem areas through review and analyses of reports, contacts, surveys, inspections and facility reviews. Incumbent reviews operational and technical security aspects associated with specific sites and facilities to determine vulnerability and threat.

Qualifications:

GS-11:  Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience in maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of automated data processing operations through performance of IT security and information assurance activities.

GS-12:  Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of automated data processing operations through performance of IT security and information assurance activities; participating in identification and analyses of information security policy issues, deficiencies, and problem areas through review and analyses of reports, and contacts.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is that which is directly related to the position and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Additional Qualifying experience for the GS- 11/12 grade level requires IT-related experience that demonstrated each of the following four competencies:  Attention to detail; customer service; oral communications; and problem solving.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:

For the GS-11 level: 3 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent Doctoral Degree

There is no education substitution for the GS-12 level.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Your education and work experience may be combined to meet the qualification requirements of this position.
