This job is technician level work that provides research support to the scientist in the Fruit & vegetable Insect Research Unit located in Wapato, WA.

Major Duties: The incumbent performs a variety of laboratory and field-based duties in support of research on insect pests and their natural enemies in pear and apple orchards. Assists in studies of biological control in pear orchards, requiring the ability to sample and recognize important pest and predatory insects in orchards. Assists in laboratory studies of insect behavior, including response of pest insects to chemical attractants. Assists in rearing of plants and insects for use in laboratory studies.

Basic Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible:
GS-6: Applicant must meet 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service OR education - 6 months of graduate education directly related to the duties of the position.
Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:
1. Knowledge of the principles of biological science as related to insect pests and predators.
2. Knowledge of methods used to monitor insect behavior.
3. Skill to operate and maintain biological lab & field equipment common to the area of biological sciences such as microscope, weighing scales, or weather measuring devices.
4. Skillin the use of personal computers and software packages to keep records, tabulate, analyze and summarize data.
