The incumbent serves as Program Support Assistant in the Office of the Chief of Staff and has delegated authority and responsibility for the centralized Credentialing and Privileging Program of the medical staff at this integrated health care facility. Coordinates the credentialing and privileging for appointment, reappointment, special advancement for performance/achievement, and change in status of appointment processes for all full-time and part-time staff physicians, consulting and attending staff, fee based, without compensation (WOC), contract, dentists, psychologists, optometrists, podiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and clinical pharmacists.

The incumbent is the primary staff assistant to the Medical Executive Committee of the Medical Staff and Academic Partnership Council for credentialing and privileging activities. This includes preparing practitioner information for presentation to the Academic Partnership Council. Acts independently and coordinates actions with clinical services, Human Resource Management, and the Director to ensure all credentials and privileges for all members of the medical staff including physicians, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, and psychologists are current and complete. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining documentation of current privileges on all medical staff members. Works closely with the clinical Associate Chiefs of Staff and Service Chiefs to ensure credentialing and privileging packets are completed and processed in a timely manner. Notifies services when privileges lapse. Coordinates and performs all other phases of the privileging and credentialing process including preparation of credentialing summaries and attendance at Professional Standards Board meetings as technical advisor to the Chairperson and Board for the entire credentialing process. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring the following expiration dates: Licensure, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) privileges, State Controlled Dangerous Substance, fluoroscopy certifications, board certification expiration dates for medical staff, assuring primary source verification of renewal or retirement in good standing. Also responsible for direct input of data, compilation of returns, and preparing system reports to the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) on Tort Claim settlements. Other follow-up activities include tracking torts in progress until finally settled, and obtaining 90-day appraisals of competence for new appointees.

 

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.  Relocation, Recruitment, and PCS will not be authorized.

GS-7 Minimum Qualifications:

Possess at least one year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.  This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in Federal service to qualify and MUST be reflected on your resume to be found qualified. Examples of Specialized Experience include:  establishing, monitoring, and maintaining credentialing computer software.

 

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.  Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.  Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.  Your resume MUST include the following: the month and year for each position held, and the number of work hours per week, e.g., 03/09 - 06/11 (or Present), 40 hrs/week.

 

Physical Demands:  The work is mostly sedentary; however, walking and stair climbing, bending, stooping, and carrying lightweight documents, folders, and manuals are required.  Stamina and concentration to meet crucial deadlines is required.  Keen hearing and distinct speech are essential due to extensive use of the telephone as a means of communication.  May be a certain amount of mental strain due to time constraints and frequent reviews and surveys.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position (narrative responses to the KSAOs are not needed):

1. Knowledge and skill in adapting analytical techniques and evaluation criteria to the measurement and improvement of the program's effectiveness and organizational productivity.

2. Skill in establishing, monitoring, and maintaining credentialing computer software programs and the ability to train users on the system.

3. Ability to work cooperatively with others at all managerial levels and communicate effectively when presenting recommendations and negotiating solutions to disputed recommendations.

4. Skill in written and verbal communication to organize ideas and present findings in a logical manner with supporting, as well as adverse, justification for specific issues.
