The Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164.

The purpose of this position is to serve as maintenance worker to keep the DDESS Puerto Rico School buildings, exterior structure, grounds and related fixtures and utilities functional at all times. Work assignments include the visual examination and operational tests to determine the need for and the performance of repair work involving a variety of trades. 

     The first applicant selected will work at the Ramey/Aguadilla location. Other applications will remain on file for the next year should other vacancies occur at either the Ramey or Ft Buchanan location.

Performs a variety of work maintenance activities with a major focus on roofing, asphalt work, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and cement work.  Carpentry Work: Performs work which consists of constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying wood, composite and wood substitute.  Painting Work: Performs work which consist of painting walls and woodwork, exterior trim, etc.  Plumbing Work: Performs routine duties such as normal plumbing checks, bleeding lines, and repairs.  Cement Finishing Work: Performs work such as mixing concrete. Roofing: Perform routine repairs and installing roofs. Locksmith Work: Performs routine maintenance, overhaul, and repair of mechanical locking devices. Performs simpler mechanical maintenance duties of trades while becoming familiar with more difficult work. Assists in performing a variety of basic operational checks on various of equipment such as air compressors, sprayers, cement mixers, pumps, etc.

      You must show that you have had sufficient experience and/or training that provide you with the ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Must have the skill to perform roofing, carpentry, and painting, asphalt work, and cement work.

      The work requires considerable standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and occasionally working in uncomfortable positions for short periods of time.  Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up material that weighs 15 pounds and occasionally handles materials and equipment weighing 40 pounds and over. Must be able to communitcate in English both orally and in writing.

Must meet OPM minimum qualification standards to be considered for this position.
