Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP): Acceptance of a Federal Excepted technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP).

Type of Appointment: This is a full-time, Excepted Indefinite, dual-status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership. ***Temporary position ends upon incumbent's return to duty (NTE 2 years).***

Job Summary: This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters—State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of this position is to serve as a Full Assistant to a supervisor who has responsibility for providing overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions. Participates with higher-level management officials in planning and establishing long-range work requirements and schedules. Serves as the highest-level subject matter expert for work accomplished in the organization. Work activities and functions are typically controlled through two or more levels of supervision.  The occupation and non-supervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operations supervised is Surface Maintenance Mechanic, WG-5801-11.

Background Check:  Selectee may, at the option of the agency, be required to submit to criminal, credit history, and general background checks which will be evaluated by the agency prior to a final offer of employment and access into the Georgia National Guard Federal Technician or Active Guard/Reserve program.

National Guard Membership: This position requires military membership. It is designated for Georgia Army National Guard Officer or Warrant Officer incumbent(s) only. In accordance with ARNG regulations, incumbent performs duties necessary to accomplish military Surface Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor functions in support of programs essential to state Army National Guard daily operations, training and readiness missions.

As a member of a Georgia Army National Guard unit, you will be required to train with your unit, normally one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training each year. Georgia Army National Guard units and members are subject to immediate call to federal or state active duty to meet national or state emergencies.

The following list of duties is not conclusive but provides a brief snapshot of the duties that may be required of this position:

  • Provides direct input or participates in meetings and/or conferences with engineering, production control, and other personnel involving the initial analysis of long-range work requirements.
  • Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors, sets deadlines, and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed.
  • Develops and establishes internal procedures (e.g., meetings, content, and timing of reports) to be followed by subordinate supervisors to assure effective control and direction of work activities, organizations, and personnel supervised.
  • Develops, publishes, and ensures employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised.
  • Implements and complies with agency, state, and Federal regulatory Occupational Safety and Health, and environmental requirements.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.
  • May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. 
  • May be required to serve as a member of the Command Maintenance Evaluation Team (COMET).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General Experience: Applicant must have experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; ability to explain manuals and work procedures; and ability to prepare production records, work records and reports.

Specialized Experience: Applicant must have at least 36 months specialized experience diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and system.

In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel.  Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines.  Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function.  Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes.  Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):  Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be further evaluated by the Selecting Official based on the following KSAs considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

  • Ability to plan and organize the work of the assigned repair function.
  • Ability to determine priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Transportation/Mobile Equipment repair functions.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Ability to oversee and train subordinate supervisors to deal objectively with others and make sound supervisory decisions.
  • Ability to devise new methods.

Other Requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

National Guard Compatibility: Once an applicant is selected and prior to being placed in the technician Surface Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor position, the selectee must be assigned to any unit in the Georgia Army National Guard as an Officer or Warrant Officer in MOS: OBR 88A, 90A, 91A, 92A; WOBR: 25, 91, 92, 94; WMOS: 882A. Rank inversion is strictly prohibited.

Wear of the Army uniform as prescribed by AR/NGB/GA NGR is required for incumbent of this position.  Acceptance of this position constitutes concurrence with this requirement as a condition of employment.

Preplacement Medical Requirements: Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the government's expense, prior to beginning employment.  Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.

Optional Form 78 (Certificate of Medical Examination) will be used to determine the fitness and eligibility for employment.  Upon review of results, the Human Resources Officer will approve selection, require additional medical information or find selectee medically disqualified for employment and withdraw said offer.
