The Supervisory Psychiatrist (MD or equivalent) has both clinical and administrative roles.  The physician is to be board certified or eligible in general psychiatry practice.  As a leader in the Mental Health Service, the Supervisory Psychiatrist is responsible for the overall operation of the Psychiatry Team, whose mission is to provide Veterans in need of mental health services with high quality clinical treatment, case management, advocacy and coordination of care.  He/she oversees the clinical and administrative activities, including budget and fiscal management, human resource management, strategic planning, and program evaluation, assuring that the clinical and administrative functions are integrated in order to provide optimum utilization of the available services.  He/she will ensure the quality and timeliness of the services provided, customer satisfaction, as well as compliance with standards of accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission and the Inspector General’s Combined Assessment Program.  He/she ensures appropriate use of the available resources and is responsible for inspiring, motivating and guiding the mental health staff in achieving the strategic goals and plans of the service, to include Saginaw and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics.  He/she collaborates with the Chief and Assistant Chief, Mental Health Service, as well as other service chiefs and program managers to fulfill responsibilities associated with the Supervisory Psychiatrist position.

 

Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

      U.S. Citizenship (Non-citizens may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)

      Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

      Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

      Must be board certified or eligible.

      Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

First Year Residency (Internship) - a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

 

Board Certified/Eligible in general psychiatry practice preferred.

 

Must have excellent communication skills and willing to use a computerized patient record.
