In addition to skill in a full range of psychological services, the incumbent will be responsible for neuropsychological assessment, designing and conducting cognitive retraining activities and other neuropsychology interventions for patients referred throughout the healthcare system.  The incumbent will also provide consultation services to a variety of clinicians.  Knowledge: The psychologist selected for this position will deliver neuropsychological and cognitive rehabilitation services as appropriate.  In addition to the educational requirements, applicants should document specific training in neuropsychological assessment and continuing education activities regarding the same. Skills: Applicants should possess excellent time management skills.  They should possess excellent communication and negotiation skills to address the demands of the position.   Because the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System has implemented a completely computerized medical record, applicants should be familiar with and able to easily use a personal computer.   In particular, applicants should be proficient in using a word processing program and in using Windows.   Applicants should be proficient in writing psychological reports, chart notes, and treatment summaries.  Abilities:  Applicants should be able to prioritize their work appropriately and should seek consultation as needed to deal with difficult cases.   Applicants should be able to demonstrate leadership abilities within a respectful, interdisciplinary team format and should be self-motivating to seek out and complete work assignments.   Applicants should become familiar with VA and Psychology Service policies and procedures and should be able to follow protocol while maintaining necessary flexibility to overcome any barriers to providing services to veterans.   Attitudes: Applicants should exhibit excellent customer service skills toward both patients and coworkers.   Applicants should remain positive even during times of high levels of stress.   Applicants should be able to work collaboratively with all other professions and should demonstrate tolerance of  those with difference opinions and/or attitudes.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

  • U.S. citizenship.  
  • Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from a college or university whose curriculum in Psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). MUST PROVIDE TRANSCRIPTS

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS :   Candidates must be citizens of the United States.    Basic Requirements - Education:   (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)   Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from a college or university whose   curriculum in Psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and must have completed an internship in professional psychology at an institution whose curriculum is accredited by the APA.  For the full performance level, must have completed at least two years of supervised postdoctoral experience and must be licensed for independent practice as a   psychologist in a US state.  

 

SPECIALIZED   EXPERIENCE:   To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower   grade level.  Experience must have been gained in a professional program with specialized training in health psychology or health behavior. In addition to the basic requirements above for the full performance level, applicants must have two or more years of clinical experience comparable to what one would get in a VA setting, either by post-doctoral employment or two years of employment as a Psychologist. Time-in-grade requirements must be met.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES TO BE ADDRESSED :

 

1.        Knowledge and skill in specialized psychological assessment, diagnostic, and treatment methods specific to men and women patients with behavioral-health and general mental-health concerns.  

 

2.        Ability to carry out education and training in psychological principles, theories, methods, and techniques both to psychology trainees and to co-workers.

 

3.        Skill in working with multidisciplinary treatment teams.

 

4.        Document ability to handle complex work assignments and ability to manage time appropriately when faced with demands from multiple sources.

 

5.        Ability to communicate with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and with varying levels of understanding.    Should demonstrate excellent customer service skills toward both patients and co-workers.
