Duties

 

 

Incumbent is responsible  for the overall operations of the Cafeteria, and assigning  duties to all Food Service Employees to assure the servicing of meals are timely, correctly portioned, seasoned properly and displayed attractively.

 

Incumbent reassigns work or adjusts daily work schedule to meet emergency situations or changing workloads to motivate subordinates to achieve effective manpower utilization within the Canteen Service and to contribute to the overall Canteen Service Cafeteria operational standards.

 

I incumbent maintains constant surveillance of work areas, operating procedures, work methods, employee performance, sanitation, condition of equipment, compliance to policies and procedures established by the Canteen Service.

 

Incumbent assigns duties and responsibilities on a daily basis to all employees that may  need to be explained to the employee and gives detailed instructions to that employee as to procedures and tasks to ensure quality and quantity of items are sufficient for he says sales.

 

Incumbent is always available to train or assign with any food preparation, sanitation, or portioning of all and any items to be prepared.

 

Incumbent work with other employees and sets the pace.

 

Incumbent demonstrates proper work methods and ensures other employees are adhering to these methods, including proper food handling procedures, sanitation procedures, and portion control,

 

Incumbent orders groceries and supplies on a regular basis to assure proper quantities are on hand for menu needs.

 

Incumbent assures safety rules are adhered to, and instructs employees in the proper use and sanitation of all equipment.

Qualifications:

Your background must demonstrate experience:

Work Experience in a cafeteria and/or fast food enivronment that provided the basic principles and concepts used in all functional areas of a food service operation.

Ability to supervise employees in accordance with prescribed procedures.

Ability to plan and organize own work, and the work of other lower grade workers.

Ability to train lower grade workers.

Knowledge of proper food handling and food sanitation principles for safegaurding against spoilage and waste.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT Requires constand standing, walking and frequent bending. Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionaly lift or move objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance. 

WORKING CONDITIONS

EXPERIENCE :  A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612.   Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c ). 

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT:  Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.  Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.  The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions.

 Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave :  Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.  VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.  This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.

 

This position is located at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System which is part of the VA Midwest Health Care Network (VISN 23).

 

 

Service Line:   VCS- Canteen

Tour of Duty:  Monday-Friday (6am- 230pm) with a possibility of working weekends and unscheduled hours as needed
