This is a developmental position. Work assignments are progressively complex and intended to broaden your skills and provide you with practical experience to prepare you to perform at the target grade level. At the target grade level the major duties are:

•Assist customers answering questions such as item price or location and handling bulky/ heavy items.
•Operate an electronic checkout system to record unit price, total customer purchase and make correct change.
•Perform a variety of duties in handling, preparing and maintaining stock levels of grocery and produce items.
•Review stock levels and gather inventory data in order to maintain the Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) system.
•Prepare and maintain a variety of documents to order commissary items, reconcile invoices and submit requisitions.
•Maintain security, safety and sanitation practices and procedures.

To qualify for this position, applicants must possess:

GS-01:  No experience required.
GS-02:  Three months of general experience or have a High School Diploma or equivalent or have a combination of qualifying experience and education.
GS-03:  Six months general experience or have one year of education beyond the high school or have a combination of qualifying experience and education.
GS-04:  Applicants must possess at least one year general experience or have two years of education beyond the high school level or have a combination of qualifying experience and education.

General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of Store Associate.

•Physical Requirement: Ability to frequently lift, push, pull, carry and handle items weighing between 30 and 40 pounds without assistance.  Work involves prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing.  May be exposed to differences in temperatures in storing or obtaining items in refrigerated rooms.  There is a danger of minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, heat sealer burns, and slipping on wet floors.
