Area of Consideration: Open Nationwide to current and prior service enlisted military service members (Active Duty, National Guard, or Reserve status), eligible for immediate enlistment into the Georgia Air National Guard.

Position Location: 116th Maintenance Squadron (A/R), Robins AFB, Warner Robins, Georgia. 

Type of Appointment: This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, dual-status position which requires Georgia Air National Guard Membership. 

Job Summary: This technician position is located in the Repair and Reclamation Shop of the 116th Maintenance Squadron. This position accomplishes on and off equipment maintenance on aircraft systems and components such as wheel and tire, flight control, canopies, landing gear, and performs general heavy airframe maintenance, beyond the capability of other maintenance activities. Provides canability for the recovery and reclamation of equipment of damaged or crashed aircraft.

PCS: PCS is not authorized.

Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP): Acceptance of a Federal Excepted technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the SRIP.

Background Check: Selectee may, at the option of the agency, be required to submit to criminal, credit history, and general background checks which will be evaluated by the agency prior to a final offer of employment and access into the Georgia National Guard Federal Technician or Active Guard/Reserve program.

National Guard Membership: This position requires military membership. It is designated for Enlisted incumbent(s) only. In accordance with AFR regulations, incumbent performs duties necessary to accomplish military Aircraft Mechanic (A/R) functions in support of programs essential to state Air National Guard daily operations, training and readiness missions.

As a member of a Georgia Air National Guard unit, you will be required to train with your unit, normally one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training each year. Georgia Air National Guard units and members are subject to immediate call to federal or state active duty to meet national or state emergencies.

The following list of duties is not conclusive but provides a brief snapshot of the duties that may be required of this position:

  • Performs all phases of the repair and reclamation process for crashed or damaged aircraft utilizing lifting bags, cranes, hoists, slings, forklifts, and other heavy equipment.
  • Serves on the flight control team and may coordinate team functions.
  • Advises on and participates in the removal, rigging, and replacement of flight control surfaces, portable huffet and lavatory units.
  • Accomplishes organizational and intermediate level maintenance, which involves major repairs, TCTO's, and/or flight controls, landing gears, doors and canopies and associated equipment requiring structural or component maintenance beyond the capabilities of other activities.
  • Performs intermediate level maintenance on aircraft wheel and tires and may also accomplish organizational maintenance such as wheel and tire and brake changes.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, II: and LIE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General Experience: Must have experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications.  Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

Specialized Experience: Must have at least 18 months specialized experience performing inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, postflight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections such as fuel contamination, emergency equipment, and oil sampling.installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification.  Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be further evaluated by the Selecting Official based on the following KSAs considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

  • Knowledge of aircraft components; such as landing gear, engines, flight controls, hydraulic and fuels systems.
  • Skill in the removal and installation of various aircraft components and parts.
  • The ability to use various tools, guages and powered and non-powered aircraft ground equipment.
  • The ability to interpret technical data, publications, regulations, diagrams and schematics.
  • Knowledge of various inspections and preventative maintenance on aircraft; such as pre-flight, thru-flight, post-flight and lubrication of components.

Other Requirements: Applicant must have a valid driver's license.  Applicant must possess a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) or be able to obtain one within one year of employment.

National Guard Compatibility: Once an applicant is selected and prior to being placed in the technician Aircraft Mechanic (A/R) position, the selectee must be assigned to any unit in the Georgia Air National Guard as an  Enlisted member in AFSC: 2A5X4.

Rank inversion is strictly prohibited.

Wear of the Air Force uniform as prescribed by AFR/NGB/GA NGR is required for incumbent of this position.  Acceptance of this position constitutes concurrence with this requirement as a condition of employment.

Preplacement Medical Requirements: Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the government's expense, prior to beginning employment.  Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.

Optional Form 78 (Certificate of Medical Examination) will be used to determine the fitness and eligibility for employment.  Upon review of results, the Human Resources Officer will approve selection, require additional medical information or find selectee medically disqualified for employment and withdraw said offer.
