The Administrative Fellowship Program at the Orlando VA Medical Center is part of the Department of Veterans Affairs Graduate Healthcare Administration Training Program (GHATP) and is precepted by the Medical Center Director.

The Orlando VA Medical Center, a member of the VA Sunshine Healthcare Network VISN 8 (Florida and Puerto Rico), includes a large primary and specialty care clinic, a 120-bed Community Living Center and a 60-bed Domiciliary on its main campus in Orlando, as well as 3 Community Based Outpatient Clinics (Kissimmee, Leesburg, Orange City) and 2 large comprehensive, Satellite Outpatient Clinics (Daytona Beach and Viera). The Medical Center which serves six counties is very active with over 93,000 unique patients treated, over 780,000 outpatient visits, and over 1,000,000 clinic stops per year. Active planning is ongoing for the new $650 million "Orlando VA Medical Center," with planned construction beginning in 2009.

The Graduate Health Administration Training Program is designed to prepare the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to function as a healthcare manager within the VA Healthcare System upon completion.  During the one-year fellowship, you will complete formal rotations in all departments at the facility and at VA National Headquarters, with opportunities for additional rotations at the Network and healthcare facilities VISN 8. The Fellow will routinely attend meetings with top management, participate in process improvement teams, and be assigned to design and complete projects that will improve analytical skills, encourage innovative thought, increase knowledge of health care administration, and assist the Fellow in achieving his or her professional developmental goals. 

 

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday days.

At the end of the internship, you are eligible for noncompetitive conversion to a career-conditional appointment to the GS-9 level, however, the VA does not have any obligation to place you.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by June 1, 2013.

 

Time-in-grade:   Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

-You must be a United States Citizen.

-You must live within the local commuting area of the Orlando VAMC, which is typically within 50 miles of the city of Orlando.

-Candidates must have graduated within the last two years (6/1/11 to 6/1/13 graduation date) with a Masters in Public Health, Masters in Health Administration, or other Health Care Management/Administrative Degree or a Masters in Business Administration with at least 2 courses in Healthcare Administration.    Preference eligible veterans have up to 6 six from the time of graduation if you were precluded from applying due to military service.

-You must have an overall GPA of 2.75.

-You must be an attendee or graduate from a university accredited by a GHATP approved agency:  AACSB, ACBSP, AUPHA, CAHME, CEPH, NASPAA.  Please google your school's accreditation.
