This job is located at a National Guard maintenance facility, warehouse, training site, supply or support type facility. Its purpose is to perform work related to a wide range of warehousing activities to include receiving, storing, selecting and shipping general or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment.

ALABAMA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Alabama Army National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Alabama Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Alabama Army National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION FOR ALABAMA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD POSITIONS:

AREA ONE:  All permanent Alabama Army National Guard civilian excepted technicians currently employed.

AREA TWO: All drill status/M-day personnel in the Alabama Army National Guard.

AREA THREE: All U.S. Citizens or individuals eligible for membership in the Alabama Army National Guard.

(1) Loads and unloads materials. Inspects and inventories materials for serviceability and quantity. Checks, assembles, and processes documents, and routes materials and equipment to correct locations or storage areas. Locates, accesses, loads, and moves material for shipment and verifies or prepares documents either manually or by using automated equipment such as computer terminals and bar code wands to read, store, track, and prepare materials documentation. Examines items being turned in to determine classification, serviceable condition, and repairability and tags accordingly. May be required to prepare and type a variety of supply documents or reports.
(2) Prepares shipping and inventory documents with required data for manual or automated inventory systems. Loads and unloads
shipments from trucks, rail cars, and other material conveyances using fork lifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, side loaders, and/or stacker cranes. Participates in annual and cyclic inventory. May pack, crate, stencil, weigh and band equipment and supplies, equipment or hazardous material for shipment or storage. May operate warehouse tractors, fork lifts, tugs and trucks, and other general purpose vehicles and perform routine operator maintenance. May use pliers, screwdrivers and other simple hand tools to make repairs or
adjustments or replace missing components on equipment. May work in hazardous materials storage areas which require the use of specialized handling and storage procedures as required by regulatory and safety requirements.
(3) May maintain property book and hand receipts.
(4) Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Each applicant must fully substantiate (in his/her own words) that he/she meets the requirements of the specialized experience listed below; Otherwise, the applicant will be considered unqualified for this position. DO NOT COPY THE VACANY ANNOUNCEMENT OR THE POSITION DESCRIPTION.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least 6 months experience or training demonstrating the ability to store, organize and/or rotate a variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities. Familiar with basic warehouse procedures. Experience in determining quantities of inventory items. Experience in following oral and written instructions.  
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Performs a wide variety and range of duties requiring specialized knowledge of warehouse plans, methods, procedures, and techniques of material handling. May type to prepare reports or documents. May use automated equipment such as optical readers and scanners and computer keyboards to develop computerized inventory data, access materials, and fill item requisitions. Considers height, weight, and special handling requirements when stacking, moving, and arranging items on pallets. Uses pallet measuring gauges and automated devices to insure that proper height, weight and other load and storage
requirements are met and damage in storage or in transit is prevented.


THERE ARE NO SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR WAGE GRADE POSITIONS.

COMPATIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to and qualify in a compatible military position. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technical school training in a military status.
Compatible Military Assignment: ECMF: 89, 91, 92; EMOS: 88H, 88M, 88N, 88Z Applicants do not have to possess this AOC to be certified as qualified.
