This CYS Program Associate Homework Lab position is located at School Age Services. Age groups for this facility are grades 1st through 5th. Must be available to work mornings, days, nights, and split shifts. Employee is subject to an IRREGULAR tour of duty.  This is a Regular Part-Time position with a guaranteed work week of 20  hours per week with possibility of more. This position is considered a critical and essential position.

Incumbent performs duties under the verbal and written direction of the facility director. Assistance and guidance is normally available at all times. Work is reviewed in terms of results achieved and adherence to established standards and procedures.

Responsible for the operation of the Child and Youth Services (CYS) Homework Center in accordance with applicable regulations. As part of the on ratio staff, provides assistance to participants in strengthening their academic and learning skills, particularly in the areas of math, science, and English language (communication) skills. Works with Youth Education Support Services staff to develop and implement a comprehensive program to assist students in the completion of daily homework assignments, reinforce existing and develop new skills, and positively support children through recognition of their efforts. Provides care/supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army and local policies, guidance, and standards.

Develops linkages with parents, School Liaison Officer, other CYS Program Associates (such as working in the technology lab), and volunteer tutors to ensure homework center is fully integrated into all applicable program settings. Works cooperatively with trainer and supervisor to create a program setting that provides areas/materials/methods for different styles of learning i.e., auditory, visual, etc. as well as desks/tables, soft areas, small individual as well as large group space. Encourages participant interest and establishes a program setting that promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth, and adults. Makes suggestions to supervisor to on materials/equipment to extend learning opportunities beyond homework to include items such as dictionaries and other reference books, globes, maps, calculators, etc. Keeps abreast of school curriculum and supports school teacher/classroom initiatives.

Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth. Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children/youth. Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements. Models appropriate behaviors and techniques for working with children/youth. Recommends changes and adjustments where necessary to activities and plans to meet unusual situations associated with the needs of individual children and youth.

Observes participants' progress in homework center. Continually reviews activities and plans for appropriateness. Observes a program participant for signs that may indicate illness, abuse or neglect and reports as directed. Participates in conferences with parents, program staff, and school representatives. Plans and conducts activities for parents encouraging parents to become involved. Ensures program is in compliance with standards and procedures as outlined in applicable regulations and program management guides. Provides care/supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army and local policies, guidance, and standards.

Works with senior staff to provide instruction and training to lower level employees on working in the homework center. Provides input to CYS training plan based on observed training needs.

Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities.

Completes designated training requirements and records completed training on own Individual Development Plan (IDP).


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

1. Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
2. Be able to communicate in English (both written and verbal).
3. Be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
4. Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis.
5. Possess and maintain health and freedom from communicable disease.
6. Possess and maintain a CDA/School-Age/Youth Credential (including Boys and Girls Clubs of America)/Army Youth Practicum
7. Possess 12 months of experience working in a related field
OR
1- Possess BA/BS degree with a major emphasis on ECE, Elementary Education, Child Development, Home Economics, Special Education or a related field.
2- Possess work experience directly related to the duties to be preformed.
3- Ability to communicate in English (both written and verbal).
4- Be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
5- Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis.
6- Possess and maintain health and freedom from communicable disease.


 

Conditions of employment:
