JOB SUMMARY:

The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) is the nation's fully accredited federal school of medicine and graduate school of nursing. Its education, research and consultation programs are unique, related directly to military medicine, tropical diseases, disasters medicine, military medical readiness and adaptation to extreme environments. We prepare outstanding scientists and health care practitioners for careers in service to the nation.

This position is located within the Office of Research, which has a mission to facilitate, encourage, and promote research activities at USUHS.  In this capacity, the Office of Research monitors, reviews, and coordinates approvals for all matters dealing with research at USUHS.

As a Human Research Coordinator, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

·         Acting as a resource for researches by providing advice and/or instruction concerning the protection of human research volunteers, protocol, legal requirements, and/or approval documentation.

·         Communicating with senior level executives and/or program directors on the human protocol review process, approval procedures, and human protection research.

·         Maintaining documentation and/or audit trail for protocol related communications.

·         Assisting in administering activities related to human research protection.

·         Interpreting and/or applying laws, regulations, institutional policies, and/or guidelines to protect human research subjects.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following qualification requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: 

 

GS-09: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-07) in the Federal service or equivalent public or private sector assisting in administering activities related to human research protection; providing support to insure compliance of statues, regulations, and/or directives dealing with human subjects participating in research; and preparing and/or maintaining files for each human subject research protocol.

Education may be substituted for experience at the GS-09 level as follows: Completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree OR a LL.B. or J.D., if related to this position OR have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

GS-11: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-09) in the Federal service or equivalent public or private sector assisting in administering activities related to human research protection; providing support to insure compliance of statues, regulations, and/or directives dealing with human subjects participating in research; preparing and/or maintaining files for each human subject research protocol; and communicating with senior level executives and/or program directors on the human protocol review process, approval procedures, and/or human protection research.

Education may be substituted for experience at the GS-11 level as follows: Completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree OR a LL.M., if related to this position OR a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
