QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible for this position, you must possess the qualifying specialized experience and/or education as well as selective factors as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire and as outlined below.
To qualify for this position you must first meet the Basic Qualification by having successfully completed a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your school transcript(s) to show you meet the basic education requirement. OR
You must have a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major, as described above (typically 24 semester hours is considered equivalent to a major in a field of study), plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must have been sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skill, and abilities required to perform General Biologist work, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4 year course of study with a major study in one of the appropriate fields. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your school transcript(s) to show you meet the basic education requirement.
In addition to the basic education requirement described above, you must also have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include participation in the planning and execution of biological studies with limited number of variables; performing established, standardized tests and analyses on a broad range of biological samples; developing alternatives and preparing specific recommendations for resource protection and restoration activities and conducting biological studies using established fact finding procedures. Assignments were made with the objectives, priorities, and deadlines defined. The work was planned and carried out independently in accordance with proven techniques, methods, and practices. Controversial use of approaches or modifications of standard procedures were typically discussed with a designated person before being carried out. OR
You must have 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field that is directly related to biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines. One year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) is considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full- time graduate study. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your school transcript(s) if qualifications are based on education. OR
You must have a combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above. Experience and education should be computed as percentages of the overall requirements and must equal 100% when combined. Only graduate education in excess of the first 2 years is creditable when combined. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your school transcript(s) if qualifications are based on education.

1. You may be required to serve a trial period of 1 year.
2. You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued drivers license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued drivers license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid drivers licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Your rating will be based on your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire and the information stated in your resume. The assessment questions relate to the following competencies that are required to perform the work of this position.
Knowledge of natural resources management within regulated river ecosystems and associated disciplines, including ecology, botany, wildlife biology, hydrology, and recreation planning.
Knowledge of natural resource responses to ecosystem drivers and stressors, including recreational use, dam operations, and invasive species.
Skills to develop and implement scientifically credible study designs and survey methods for complex, interdisciplinary, and long-term resource monitoring programs.
Skills to collect, manage, process, synthesize, analyze, interpret, and communicate complex ecological, geographical, and environmental data.
Ability to provide technical oversight and guidance to an interdisciplinary team of resource specialists so that the resource stewardship needs of the park are met in a cost effective, efficient, timely, professional, and scientifically sound manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

Category rating procedures will be used to rate and rank candidates. Candidates will be ranked into 3 categories:
Category Group I (Best Qualified) - applicants who possess experience and/or education that well exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position, including all selective factors and all quality ranking factors. Applicants considered best qualified must be highly proficient in all requirements of the job and be able to perform effectively in the position.
Category Group II (Well Qualified) - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job.
Category Group III (Qualified) - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all of the requirements of the job.
VETERANS PREFERENCE: Veterans Preference applies to category rating. Within each quality category, veteran's preference eligibles are listed first, including CP, CPS, XP, and TP. In addition, veterans who have a 10% or more service-connected compensable disability (CP or CPS) are placed at the top of the highest quality category (except in the case of scientific or professional positions at the GS-9 level or above or if they fail to meet positive education requirements, training, selective placement factor, etc.). Order of Consideration: Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications required by the position will be considered in the following order: (1) best qualified applicants entitled to 10-point veterans' preference who have a compensable service-connected disability of 10 percent or more (except in the case of scientific or professional positions at the GS-9 level or above or if they fail to meet positive education requirements, training, selective placement factor, etc.), best qualified applicants entitled to 10-point or 5-point veterans' preference, and then all other best qualified applicants, (2) well qualified applicants entitled to 10-point or 5-point veterans' preference and then all other well qualified applicants, (3) qualified applicants entitled to 10-point or 5-point veterans' preference and then all other qualified applicants.
