This position is located in the Executive Office of the Foreign Service Institute at the Department of State.  The incumbent performs a wide range of program, logistical, administrative and technical assistance work in the support of the training activities of FSI.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Relocation expenses will NOT be paid.

As a Program Assistant (OA) you will be responsible for assisting with program workload by disposing of clear-cut cases, transactions, and administrative management functions in order to carry out specific procedures and established program methods. You will be responsible for the initial screening of requests, applications, and claims; reviewing requests, applications, claims, and compiling program statistics and reports. Typical work assignments include: - Examining incoming requests, applications, or claims relating to program actions or benefits ensuring that the information received is complete per program instructions. - Reviewing incoming information concerning factual, legal and regulatory requirements and approves or recommends approval. - Screening, controlling and processing requests into a database system that identifies pertinent information and final dispositions. In addition, establishing and maintaining active, closed and action files.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U. S. Department of Education in order to be credit towards qualifications. Applicants applying for the GS-07 grade level must have at least 1 full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service which provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: - Experience with an extensive body of rules, procedures, and operations. - Performing a wide variety of interrelated and nonstandard procedural assignments and resolving a wide range of problems related to the screening of requests for action or benefits and administering the program's processes. - Explaining program regulations and policies to would-be requestors, beneficiaries, or claimants. - Working on multiple cases or projects having varied, changing deadlines in a timely, effective manner. - Developing and issuing both statistical and narrative reports. AND Must be able to type a minimum of 40 wpm with no more than 3 errors. Note: Individuals may be required to take a typing exam. Education Substitution: As a general rule, education is not creditable at this level for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
