THIS ANNOUNCEMENT ESTABLISHES AN OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT UNTIL THE POSITION IS FILLED. THE FIRST LIST OF ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS WILL BE PULLED FOR REFERRAL ON FEBRUARY 19, 2013, AND THEN BI-WEEKLY AFTER THAT UNTIL THE POSITION IS FILLED. THIS IS A BARGANING UNIT POSITION.

 

This position is located in Temple, Texas, and provides primary care to our Veteran patients.  The duties are as follows:

 

·                Provides comprehensive care for our veteran population such as diagnosis, care, and treatment of assigned patients.

·                Provides effective medical treatment, consultation, and diagnosis upon request from other Services/Departments.

·                Obtains patient histories, performs physical exams, formulates a working diagnosis and develops/implements a treatment plan according to clinical guidelines and to determine appropriate hospitalization, and/or disposition to Nursing Home Care, Assisted Living, Community Nursing Home, and/or Home Care.

·                Orders lab tests, x-rays, EKG’s and other diagnostic procedures.

·                Initiates or expedites requests for consults, special tests, or studies.

·                Authorized to write both inpatient and outpatient medical orders, treatments and medications. 

·                Provides education and counseling to patient and family in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatment and drugs.

·                Board certification preferred.

·                Three years of residency preferred.

·                Duties may include but are not limited to assignment to the womens' clinic.

 

This provider may be required to teach medical students and residents.  Preference will be given to applicants who will serve as academic staff.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

 

  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must have a degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C 7402(d) and 7407(d).
  • Must have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.
  • Must have completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

Preferred Experience 

1. Three years of residency training.

2. Board certification in a medical specialty.
