The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is responsible for ensuring safety of the Nation's passenger and freight rail operations and infrastructure by promoting safe, efficient and accessible rail transportation. The mission and focus of FRA has grown to include the design and management of an unprecedented investment in the creation of a nationwide passenger rail network. FRA is providing leadership for the creation of a more balanced transportation system, transforming the way Americans travel.
To meet this mission FRA promulgates and enforces rail safety regulations; consolidates government support of rail transportation activities; administers financial assistance programs; conducts research and development in support of improved railroad safety and efficiency, and national transportation policy, including improved intercity passenger service.

This position is located in a Regional Office of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Office of Safety and is the regional expert responsible for the interpretation and administration of FRA regulations and procedures concerning all types of railroad signals and train control systems and highway-rail crossing systems and various components. You will supervise approximately 7 to 14 Railroad Safety Inspectors.
The ideal candidate for this position a mission focused experienced professional who has provided technical advice on safety concerns related to designing, constructing, and maintaining signals and train control systems on a railroad. A background applying knowledge of various elements of electronic and electrical functional fields is essential for this position.
PLEASE NOTE: There is only 1 position which may be filled in either of the advertised duty locations. You must identify the location(s) for which you wish to be considered. This is a mobile work position, meaning the work requires the selectee to travel off site the majority of the time and use the selectee's home as his or her duty location. The Agency has determined that this duty location must be in the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) of any of the listed cities.
