The Department of Interior's (DOI), Office of the Secretary (OS), Office of the Chief Information Officer  is currently seeking bright and highly-motivated applicants for the Recent Graduates Program. The purpose of the Recent Graduates Program is to provide recently graduating students with  an entry-level developmental experience designed to lead to a civil service career in the Federal Government.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) is devoted to protecting and preserving the natural resources of this great nation, including National Parks, Landmarks, and the well-being of communities, including those of Native American, Alaska Natives and affiliated Islanders.

 

This position is located in the DOI, Office of the Secretary (OS), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).  The OCIO provides leadership to the DOI and its bureaus in all areas of information management and technology.

  • Review program and job status reports and listings, analyzing data in terms of cost man-hour expenditure and workload accomplished as compared with established schedules.
  • Determine causative factors between planned and expended, and communicate recommendations to program managers, supervisors, and higher Department-level management.
  • Review, research, analyze, and evaluate program and budget execution and make recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Conduct studies of work process efficiencies and effectiveness, recommend solutions and plans of actions for correction, and provide analyses and reports of recommendations in written, oral and presentation formats.

In order to be eligible for the Recent Graduates Program, the following qualifications must be met:

 

• Be a U.S. citizen;

Possess a qualifying associates, bachelors, master's professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution, obtained within the previous 2 years;

 

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level or may substitute education for experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Specialized experience includes, but is not limited to: reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating budget actions for execution; auditing and editing budget reports to provide accurate information to senior management; reporting and recommending budget and finance solutions for operational functions; creating and preparing data presentations; and communicating with senior management and other essential personnel regarding budgetary analysis and requirements. 

 

A written test is not required.


A combination of education and/or experience may substitute for the specialized experience requirement.

 

Only education from institutions which are accredited or preaccredited/candidate for accreditation may be used to meet education requirements.

 

For the GS-09 applicants must possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related or one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

Recent Graduates Program

Conditions of Employment:

The duration of an excepted service appointment in the Recent Graduates Program is a trial period.

 

Appointment under the Recent Graduates Program may not exceed one year. Appointees may be non-competitively converted to the competitive service after successful completion of at least one year of continuous service, in addition to all of the requirements of the Recent Graduates Program.

  

Work Schedule: 

This position will be filled as full-time.

 

Relocation Expenses:

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses for this position will not be paid by the Department of the Interior. 

 

Veteran's Preference:

In no event, however, may your eligibility period extend beyond 6 years from the date on which you completed the requirements of an academic course of study.
