JOB SUMMARY:

Pathways Recent Graduate Program: This program is for individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs and seek a dynamic, career development program with training and mentorship. To be eligible, applicants must apply within two years of degree or certificate completion (except for veterans precluded form doing so due to their military service, who will have up to six years).

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC, is an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of natural gas, oil, and electricity. FERC also regulates natural gas and hydropower projects. As part of our goal, we are seeking highly skilled individuals to assist in carrying out the mission of this agency. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission assists consumers in obtaining reliable, efficient and sustainable energy services at a reasonable cost through appropriate regulatory and market means. 

This position is located in the Division of Information Security and Systems Assurance, within the Chief Information Officer (CIO).  The CIO develops, coordinates, and maintains Commission-wide strategic and business information technology (IT) plans; develops the IT enterprise architecture; and ensures that all IT initiatives support all aspects of the Commission business plan and are compliant with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directives.

Upon successful completion of this one-year program Recent Graduates may be converted to a career or career conditional position. To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must have:

  • Successfully completed at least 1 year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.
  • Demonstrated successful job performance.
  • Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted.

As a Records and Information Management Specialist, your duties will include the following:

-Providing analytical and operational support for the records program, including training personnel and assisting with the management of the agency’s centralized offsite records storage program

-Coordinating the records destruction process for offsite temporary records and the transfer process for permanent records

-Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on various aspects of the records program

-Assisting in drafting annual and other reports to the National Archives and Records Administration

-Serving as an analytical and operational resource to Commission Offices/Divisions on records projects and matters

-Conducting research analyses, studies, and reviews on a wide variety of records management topics and issues, and making recommendations for process improvements

-Developing, maintaining, and coordinating the use of use of records management tracking tools and logs

In order to meet the qualifications for this position, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in Federal service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as:

experience in working with the specific laws and regulations for electronic and non-electronic records, the Federal Records Act, and other management control requirements in order to formulate and carry out records management responsibilities.

Education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience. Education which may be substituted to meet the requirements at the GS-9 is a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D.

-Skill in developing and implementing records and information management controls within records management applications and electronic information systems

-Ability to apply analytical and evaluative methods to conduct reviews and studies of agency programs, and make recommendations for program improvements

-Ability to use various software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) to extract data, create reports, monitor and evaluate program operations, and make recommendations to management for process and system improvements.
