JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

Located in the scenic Hudson River Valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the US Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation. You can watch them in parades or competing as intercollegiate athletes in a wide range of sporting events. As a military installation, West Point is a small, self-contained city with housing for the military stationed here in support of the Academy, a Department of Public Works to maintain the roads, grounds and facilities, two libraries (Academic and Community), a military hospital, fire department, chapels, restaurants. West Points 3,000 civilian employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theatre, the Hudson Valleys premier performing arts center, and to recreational facilities such as an 18-hole Golf Course and Ski Slope.

As an Admissions Support Clerk (Office Automation) you will assist the Soldier Admissions Officer and the Office of the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (ODIA) Admissions Officer for admission support to prospective soldiers and recruited athletes.  Prepare candidates files for admissions committee.  Prepare summary sheet and organize the file prior to qualification by the admissions officer.  Prepare required correspondence for the admissions officer or the Director of Admissions.  Ensure correspondence uses prescribed formats with correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar.  Answer candidate inquiries either in writing or by telephone.  Mail soldier packets to candidates.  Schedule soldier candidates for the Physical Aptitude Exam (PAE) and the Department of Defense Medical Exam Review Board (DODMERB) physicals.  File incoming components of the second step kit into the candidates file.  Act as liaison between ODIA, USMAPS, Congressional Liaison Office, and the USMA Admissions Office.  Maintain status of action on candidate files at the admissions committee.  Take action in the prolonged absence of the admissions officer to service the candidate.  Pull candidate files at the request of the admissions officer.  Answer telephone, screen calls and answer questions, pick up distribution and other general office administration.  Maintain office filing system in accordance with the Modern Army Record Keeping System (MARKS) and established local procedures.  Order additional publications and documents when necessary.  Prepare periodic updates to the members of congress and their staffs that are sent in the Monthly Congressional Summary.  Input changes to the congressional database.  Tabulate and mail out the results of annual congressional survey.

General Experience: To Qualify applicants must possess one year general experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-03) in the federal service. General Experience is defined as: Progressively responsible clerical or office administration experience.

OR

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: To qualify based on education, applicants must possess one of the following: Two years of higher education above High School.  

OR

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: To qualify based on a combination of education and experience, applicants must have successfully completed some higher education above High school level and experience. (The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent).
