This position is ideal for an Administrative Support Assistant looking for an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of standard administrative, clerical and office procedures in order to provide clerical and administrative support. This position starts at a salary of $34907. (GS-06), with promotion potential to $50431. (GS-07). Apply for this opportunity to become a member of the Response Division in the Region VII Kansas City Closeout Center located in Kansas City, MO.

PROMOTION POTENTIAL: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.

This position is being announced under FEMA's CORE Program (Cadre of On-call Response/Recovery employees).  These positions are authorized under P.L. 93-288 to perform temporary disaster work and are funded from the Disaster Relief Fund.  Appointments are excepted service, temporary appointments.  This is a 2 year temporary appointment in the Excepted Service. 

EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT:  For all nonbargaining unit positions, the following applies:  Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites.  All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

This position is located in the U. S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region VII,  Kansas City Closeout  Center located in Kansas City, MO.  The incumbent reports directly to the Response Division Director and provides administrative, program and coordination support to the Response Division disaster staff.

Typical work assignments include:

·         Monitors callers and visitors for senior staff. Responds to calls and determines if the call requires senior management attention, or  supplies the requested information independently when the question concerns routine information.

·         Enters correspondence and other documents into an automated tracking system and tracks information and appointments with the organizational unit. Uses such software applications as electronic mail, calendar, spreadsheet, database, and/or graphics and performs database file searches.

·         Receives incoming mail, screens and reviews incoming actions and correspondence, and routes these to appropriate staff members. Processes outgoing materials such as correspondence, and other forms of written communications, and edits or reviews correspondence for accuracy and completeness; and replies to routine inquiries.   

·         Maintains meeting and conference scheduling. Prepares travel authorizations and makes travel arrangements as assigned.

·         Performs Time and Attendance functions for assigned staff, including transmittal.

You qualify for this position at the GS-06 level if you possess one of the following:

At least one year of specialized experience in the federal government, other state, local or non-profit organization, or the private sector that is equivalent to at least the GS-05 level that has given you comprehensive knowledge of standard administrative, clerical and office procedures in order to provide clerical and administrative support.

You qualify for this position at the GS-07 level if you possess one of the following:

At least one year of specialized experience in the federal government, other state, local or non-profit organization or private sector that is equivalent to at least the GS-06 level that has given you working experience in processing and tracking personnel, documenting and processing time and compensation, and establishing and maintaining effective correspondence tracking and appointment systems.
The qualification requirements listed above must be met within 30 calendar days of the closing date of this announcement.
