THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN THE MICHAEL E. DEBAKEY'S KATY VA OUTPATIENT CLINIC, KATY, TX. 

This position is located in the Medical Administration Section of the Katy Outpatient Clinic (KOPC).  The major duties require the employee to take overall responsibility of the KOPC clerical staff.  Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  Provides comprehensive and in-depth training and evaluates the progress of new employees; Evaluates personnel and work areas to establish adequate coverage; Acts as liaison between the Clinical Nurse Managers, Patient Access Center, Medical Support Supervisor, and VA staff;  Keeps supervisor advised regarding performance of the MSAs;  Responsible for coordination of administrative functions associated with the care and treatment of patients;  Interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA National Scheduling Directive guidelines;  Monitors, schedules, cancels patients appointments and/or consults;  Monitors the electronic wait list;  Prepares for clinic visits;  Ensure that encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit;  Provides front-line assistance to customers with questions or concerns;  Utilizes computerized programs and databases in order to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive information and data;  Demonstrates knowledge of the associated medical terminology sufficient to be able to communicate effectively with employees;  other duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position OR
  • One year above high school OR
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education

 

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06 LEVEL:   Requires a minimum of one year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 in federal service.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Light lifting, under 15 pounds; light carrying, under 15 pounds; use of fingers; both hands required; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; hearing (aid permitted), mental and emotional stability.
