As a Packaging Machine Operator, you will:

  • Perform multifaceted duties, which consist of preparing and filling Bulk Bags with finished coin, weighing coinage materials and maintaining records.
  • Operate up to two (2) bulk bag counting stations consisting of 4 or 5 automatic counting machines.
  • Accurately operate the platform scale (while working with Material Handlers), to ensure a smooth weighing process.
  • Record weight and denomination of each loaded Bulk Bag according to record keeping practices of the branch by checking the total weight, piece count, value, delivery number, denomination, and tare weight figures prior to forwarding reports.
  • Be responsible for efficient material flow through counting and packaging area (full and empty skids, Bulk Bags), and for ensuring that floor space is orderly and available for incoming material.
  • Fill the Bulk Bag with proper amount of coins, by operating two automatic coin-counting machines (Universal). Ensures that tare weights are present on all skids and ensures a proper positioning of the skid. The operator notifies QA personnel so they can record verification results.
  • Maintain a clean work area at all times and assists in any cleanups. Continually checks equipment for proper operation, trouble shoots, makes adjustments, and oils as necessary. Makes minor repairs to equipment and checks machines for accuracy and speed.

Physical Requirements: You will be required to stand, stoop, bend, lift, stretch, kneel, crouch, walk, frequent pull, push, and climb onto and off of a fork truck, work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and may require to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Heavy exertion is frequent. The position frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 50 pounds and exercises moderate physical effort when operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the fork lift truck and raising, lowering, and tilting the loads being involved. Moderate heavy lifting which requires the use of a drum dolly, pallet jack, or hand cart is also part of the physical demands of the position. Incumbent stands and moves about on concrete floors during entire shift. AND

You must show in your experience and online application that you possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position. You must meet the screen-out element, normally addressed at the beginning of the online questions. In addition, you must also obtain an average score of two (2) on all other elements for this position as addressed throughout the online questions in order to be considered minimally qualified for the position.

Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three categories, Superior, Good, and Acceptable, depending on your experience and education related to this position. Veterans' preference is applied after applicants are assessed. Preference-eligibles will be listed at the top of their assigned category and considered before non-preference-eligibles in that category. Qualified preference-eligibles with a compensable service-connected disability of 10% or more will be listed at the top of the highest category.

•  Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.
