JOB SUMMARY:

The Corps of Engineers, while a component of the U.S. Army, is mostly a civilian organization. The Corps works to reduce flood damage in communities across America; improve the environment for fish and wildlife; generate clean, renewable electricity; and provide recreational opportunities. MAJOR DUTIES:
1. Operates engineering equipment such as tractors, backhoes, front-end loaders, and road graders to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specification. Works on steep slopes and close to obstructions.
2. Performs preventive maintenance and servicing of all equipment assigned. Changes attachments as necessary, and adjusts for proper positioning and working conditions.  Makes field adjustments and minor repairs to all equipment.
3. Operates large trucks, including semi-tractors with trailers carrying engineering equipment and other large loads such as generator parts. Trucks are operated on the project and on public highways, in a variety of traffic and road conditions.
4. Operates small craft and twin screw diesel boasts up to 45 feet long. Such boats are generally operated near the project, and are used to transport personnel and materials, and accomplish other work.

Screen Out Elements: Qualified applicants must have the ability to perform the duties of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. This includes the ability to operate two or more types of heavy engineering equipment to rough specifications under general supervision, receiving occasional instructions and periodic checks.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
Work requires moderate to arduous physical effort, including climbing onto and off of heavy equipment, and lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Work requires visual acuity and depth perception.


WORKING CONDITIONS
Works outdoors in all kinds of climate conditions. Aboard vessels there is danger of slipping on wet surfaces or falling into swift water. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, as required.

Obtain, and maintain current, an Oregon Class 1 (or equivalent) driver's license sufficient to operate project equipment in any state (CDL).
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
One year trial/probationary period may be required.
Direct Deposit of Pay is Required.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
