    This position is located in the Die Manufacturing Division, Denver, CO.

    The following are the duties of this position at the WG-11 level.  If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and have the opportunity to receive training to help you grow in this position.  You will perform the variety of duties to support the successful operations of manufacturing coins for circulation or high-quality Numismatic coins for collectors.  This includes the following:
    •  Fabricate parts, products, and other items from blueprints, drawings, instructions, or samples. Prepare machine tools, including conventional and specialized, automated, and/or other non-standard equipment, to accomplish fabrication processes. Plan the sequence of operations for work that requires innovative set-ups, techniques, and tools. Plan, coordinate, and/or perform related work processes, such as heat treating and annealing.
    •  Troubleshoot CNC machines. Edit programs by machining a sample, checking dimensional accuracy, and make corrections through manual input or change to the program. When necessary, de-bug machine programs and make or recommend program changes.
    •  Plan and lay out work processes using shop mathematics to compute and verify dimensions. Identifies any necessary information missing from blueprints or work orders. Decide which work procedures, machine tools, equipment, and attachments are appropriate for each operation. Determine speeds, feeds, coolants and coolant flow, etc. necessary to machine and finish the required product. Perform the full range of machining operations. Maintain dimensional accuracy throughout the process using various precision measuring devices.  
    •  Set-up, program, operate and maintain various types of laser equipment used to manufacture edge letter segments, split collars, serialization of coinage dies and texturing proof coinage dies. Capable of learning software and hardware used to control/manipulate and run programs. Create programs by converting CAD data into engraving and frosting routines. Train and align vision systems to work in conjunction with laser programs. 
    •  In the absence of or working with a Production Machinery Mechanic, disassemble, overhaul, and repair production and support equipment. As required, manufacture replacement parts needed to return equipment to operation. Adjust production machines, check functional performance, and make necessary changes.

    Physical Requirements: You will be required to stand, stoop, bend, lift, stretch, kneel, crouch, walk, frequent pull, push, and climb onto and off of a fork truck, work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and may require to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Heavy exertion is frequent. The position frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 50 pounds and exercises moderate physical effort when operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the fork lift truck and raising, lowering, and tilting the loads being involved. Moderate heavy lifting which requires the use of a drum dolly, pallet jack, or hand cart is also part of the physical demands of the position. Incumbent stands and moves about on concrete floors during entire shift. AND

    You must show in your experience and online application that you possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position. You must meet the screen-out element, normally addressed at the beginning of the online questions. Rating: Your application will be evaluated in the following areas: ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (screen out element), operation of machine tools, knowledge of technical practices, knowledge of measurement and layout, knowledge of metals, ability to use hand tools for machine shop work, and ability to use shop drawings. We may lower your rating if your responses to the online questions are not supported by the education and/or experience described in your application. Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three categories, Superior, Good, and Acceptable, depending on your experience and education related to this position. Veterans' preference is applied after applicants are assessed. Preference-eligibles will be listed at the top of their assigned category and considered before non-preference-eligibles in that category. Qualified preference-eligibles with a compensable service-connected disability of 10% or more will be listed at the top of the highest category.
