As a Supervisory Engineering Technician you will be responsible for the following duties:

 

  • Serves as Manager of Alterations Work Group (AWG)'s Pentagon Facility Management organization, supervising Engineering Technicians who serve as Project Managers over Pentagon alterations, construction and other work that AWG conducts or oversees.
  • Develops plans for renovations and new construction within the Pentagon. Plans and directs all engineering activities and construction projects being carried out by AWG, including project development, work planning, surveys, designs, studies and investigations, oversight of ongoing work, and evaluation of results. Analyzes construction project proposals and recommends changes. Evaluates renovation versus new construction. Determines appropriate service suppliers for engineering and construction services, including in-house staff, other DoD units and contract providers.
  • Manages teams that plan, design and develop construction and alteration projects to be carried out by in-house staff and through contracts. Provides guidance and technical expertise to Project Managers and teams on building infrastructure, systems and equipment during the design, construction and inspection phases of customer-requested space renovations. Keeps track of funding, staffing, equipment and materials required to complete construction, alteration and repair projects. Recommends acquisition of new equipment and oversees building and systems modifications to accommodate its installation.
  • Oversees the development of statements of work, plans, specifications and cost estimates for work to be accomplished through construction contracts. Oversees in-progress and final inspections of contract work to ensure the work is performed in accordance with all required aspects of the contractual agreement.
  • Plans the work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets and adjusts priorities; assigns work to subordinates based on priorities.

You must have one year Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private/military sector) giving the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position.

 

This position has a Basic Requirement for the 0802 series: Qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: 1) Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. 2) Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

 

Specialized experience required for this position is: 

  • Develops plans for renovations and new construction.
  • Manages teams that plan, design and develop construction and alteration projects to be carried out by in-house staff and through contracts.
  • Oversees in-progress and final inspections of contract work to ensure the work is performed in accordance with all required aspects of the contractual agreement.

Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:
1. Knowledge of technical engineering methods, principles, requirements, work techniques and practices.

2. Skill in applying a wide range of standardized, analytical and evaluative methods and techniques.

3. Ability to provide technical advice.

4. Ability to manage the workload and oversee projects.



Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level. 

Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
