Work Schedule: Other: M-F 7:30am  – 4:00pm

Duty Location: VA Medical Center, San Juan, PR

 

Major duties and responsibilities include:

·         Directs/supervises production activities to provide bacteriology and hygienically clean linen, patients’ personal clothing and employee uniforms.

·         Coordinates and reports data to facility office or customers on all matters pertaining to laundry services provided.

·         Develops and monitors linen quotas, pickup and delivery schedules.

·         Reviews staff performance to identify training needs.

·         Develops and maintains a contingency plan to maintain the standards of production during power failures, emergencies, and disasters.

·         Performs other related duties as assigned.

GS-10: A t least one (1) full year of specialized experience related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to: directing/supervising production activities to provide bacteriology and hygienically clean linen, patients' personal clothing and employee uniforms; coordinating and reporting data to facility office or customers on all matters pertaining to laundry services provided; developing and monitoring linen quotas, pickup and delivery schedules; reviewing staff performance   to identify training needs; and developing and maintaining a contingency plan to maintain the standards of production during power failures, emergencies, and disasters. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.  Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.  Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

 

OR

GS-10: At least two and a half (2.5) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D., equivalent doctoral degree, or LL.M., if related, to the position to be filled.  A transcript or course listing must be submitted if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.   See Step 3 under "How to Apply" for a description of a course listing.  Applications submitted without this information may not be considered.

GS-10: An equivalent combination of specialized experience and successfully completed higher level graduate education as outlined above for the GS-10 grade level. To calculate the combination of education and experience, determine the amount of experience you have as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level.  Then determine the amount of education you have as a percentage of the education required for the grade level.  Only education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level is qualifying.  Add the two percentages; the total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify for the grade level.

English  Language Proficiency Requirement:   Applicant must possess the ability to speak and write fluently in English in order to receive consideration for this position.

This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). The Selective Placement Factor for this position is:  Do you posses vast knowledge for all functions of a modern textile care processing facility which encompasses the utilization of the most sophisticated high tech computerized laundry equipment and laundry agents? (Skills to utilize sophisticated equipment, washroom chemicals safely and efficiently. Make sure all equipment is properly utilized and accountable, welll maintained, effective, and economical). Resume/Application materials must reflect this experience in order to receive credit for this selective placement factor.

 

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:

Knowledge of Federal Laws, regulations, directives, policies, and procedures.

 

Ability to supervise others.

 

Knowledge of laundry and/or dry cleaning equipment and processing operation.

 

Ability to lead, plan and manage projects.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: You must be mentally and physically alert to perform the demands of the position and to provide the instructions, guidance and training to his/her staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: You will work in an office setting and production plant. At times the work environment is loud, noisy, hot, and humid. Must tolerate the environmental conditions in the Laundry Plant.

Applicants will be ranked based on four quality groups, as follows:

  • Best qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;
  • Highly qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;
  • Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and
  • Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.
