JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

This position is located at Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC). WAMC is located on Fort Bragg and occupies over 1 million square feet scattered over 163 arces of land. WAMC services 162,000 eligible benficiaries from the military community. There is an onsite gymnasium, star quality dining facility, full-service bank, shoppette, barbershop, florist, etc., located in the hospital complex. Free parking is available adjacent to the work site. Local public transportation is available. Day care services are available on Fort Bragg. Access to on-post recreational facilities (gyms, ice skating rink, theaters, bowling centers, Officer/NOC Club dining facilities, AFFES eateries, etc).

Major Duties:

· Must be able to perform / demonstrate experience in processing, assembling, trouble-shooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment.

· Knowledge of autoclaving and other equipment operations as well as indicators used as check points for sterilized supplies.

· Must have the ability to recognize a wide variety of instruments, supplies and to discriminate among similar appearing instruments that vary in size and nomenclature.

· Applicant must know the technical names, general uses, physical characteristics and operating conditions of medical supply items; resume must identify experience and skills with decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization and storage procedures; expertise in the use of aseptic techniques and skill in   operating a washer-sterilizer, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, steam, plasma and H202 sterilizers.

· Must be able to assemble surgical trays weighing up to 25 pounds for the operating room without any assistance.

Specialized experience:   I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. At least one year experience working in a healthcare facility. The best qualified candidates resume must demonstrate experience working full-time as a medical supply technician and liaison between the Operating Room and Central Sterile Supply (CSS), Central Material Services (CMS), or Sterile Processing Department (SPD) in resolving problems that arise throughout the day. Must be able to perform / demonstrate experience in decontaminating, processing, assembling, trouble-shooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing and issuing a wide variety of instrument sets, sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment to an Operating Room. Experience operating washer sterilizers, steam sterilizers, Sterrad sterilizers and other equipment operations as well as indicators used as check points for sterilized supplies. Must have the ability to recognize a wide variety of instruments, supplies and to discriminate among similar appearing instruments that vary in size and nomenclature. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (Knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

 

  • Knowledge of medical supplies and equipment used in the hospital wards, clinic and operating rooms.
  • Knowledge of written and oral communication
  • Knowledge of Rules, Regulations and Procedures


 or Graduate education or internship meets the specialized experience required. If education is used to meet specialized experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position.
