 The Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center (BVAMC) is an integral part of the Medical community that provides acute, tertiary, medical, and surgical care to Veterans of Alabama.   The Medical Center provides care to a veteran population of 420,000 in Alabama and treats approximately 57,000 unique veterans annually.   The medical center serves as a referral center for this area with 138 operating beds with care provided in almost all medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties. Birmingham, AL is located in the heart of the Southeastern United States and is a progressive center for medical research, banking, music, technology, art, engineering, and higher education.

This opportunity is open to current degree or certificate seeking students at a qualifying education institution OR have been admitted/accepted for enrollment at a qualifying education institution.  You will be required to provide documentation to support eligibility.

The intern position will be filled by a student under the Pathways Intern Program and will support the Business Management Office at the Birmingham VA Medical Center. The internship is to provide a learning opportunity for a student enrolled in a field of study to enhance their future goals and improve their knowledge with work experience in a working environment.

 As an Intern Trainee you will:

 -Receive, index and scan health and administrative information

-Input information into databases and maintain daily logs

-Demonstrate flexibility in order to manage workload

-In addition to these duties other duties may be assigned.

 Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 7:30-4:30

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Basic Qualifications:

-Be at least 16 years of age.

-enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a Technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, Graduate or professional school at a qualifying educational institution on a half-time or full-time basis.

-You must be in good academic standing, not on academic probation.

-Provide transcript and proof of enrollment/acceptance letter.

-Provide a detailed resume showing your eligibility for this position.

-You will be required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.


Suggested majors include: Health Information Management, Business and other related field.
