The Maritime Administration is the agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation dealing with waterborne transportation. Its programs promote the use of waterborne transportation and its seamless integration with other segments of the transportation system, and the viability of the U.S. merchant marine. The Maritime Administration works in many areas involving ships and shipping, shipbuilding, port operations, vessel operations, national security, environment, and safety.
This position is located in the Office of Cargo Preference & Domestic Trade, Agriculture Unit, where you will serve as a Trade Specialist for the cargo preference programs assigned by the Civilian Agencies programs Senior Advisor. The general mission of the Office of Cargo Preference & Domestic Trade is to create, coordinate, and implement programs and projects designed to increase the overall American-flag Merchant Marine participation in the carriage of US ocean borne foreign trade.
The ideal candidate for this position has knowledge of cargo preference laws, regulations and Comptroller General and Attorney General opinions that establishes policy to be follow for implementation of statutes, along with commercial maritime industry experience.

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements.

||To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the following:
- Experience monitoring ocean shipping activities of the public sector, military agencies (i.e. DOD) and/or private shipping companies.
- Experience interpreting rules and regulations to ensure that cargo preference requirements are met and that government impelled cargoes are shared with the U.S. –flag carriers of U.S. ocean borne foreign trade.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.
- GOVERNMENT TRAVEL CARD: You must be able to obtain and retain a Government contractor-issued travel card to be used for official business as a condition of employment.
