JOB SUMMARY:

The House Natural Resources Committee considers legislation about American energy production, mineral lands and mining, fisheries and wildlife, national parks, national forests and public lands, oceans, Native Americans, and irrigation.

The Majority Staff (Republican) of the House Committee on Natural Resources (Committee) seeks
an entry-level or junior attorney for an oversight and investigative counsel position with the Committee’s
Office of Oversight and Investigations.

    The duties include:

    • Reviewing and analyzing issues and matters pertaining to federal natural resource and energy issues falling under the Committee’s jurisdiction, including the Departments of the Interior, Commerce, Energy, and Agriculture.
    • Developing and executing oversight and investigative plans to define the scope and direction of reviews and investigations.
    • Conducting thorough investigations into fraud, waste, or abuse into matters falling under the Committee’s jurisdiction, including reviewing documents and interviewing witnesses.
    • Assisting in the preparation of public oversight hearings conducted by the Committee.
    • Drafting and preparing correspondence and investigative reports.


    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    Law degree from ABA-accredited law school; active admission (in good standing) to a state bar; superior academic and professional credentials; exceptional writing and oral communication skills; and demonstrated ability to function in a highly demanding environment are required. Previous Congressional or federal oversight/investigative experience, or experience with natural resource, energy, environmental, or administrative law are strongly preferred.
