The U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for enforcing some of our nation's most comprehensive federal labor laws on topics, including the minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, child labor and special employment, family and medical leave, migrant workers, lie detector tests, worker protections in certain temporary worker programs, and the prevailing wages for government service and construction contracts.

The full performance level of position is GS-09.

Provide administrative management support to the organization by identifying, coordinating, monitoring, controlling and evaluating the administrative support operations of the organization while ensuring coordination, adequacy, and timeliness of all actions and recommend improvements to various internal procedures and methods. Serve as expert in all "E" activities to include eProcurement, eTravel, eProperty Management, PeopleTime, and WebPar. Make travel arrangements for managers and other staff members. Prepare and track personnel actions to include hiring, promotions, awards and pre- and post employment actions. Conduct annual safety and health inspections of all office within the jurisdiction of the District Office. Maintain and update the COOP and emergency plans. Maintain all telephone lists, internal organizational charts, and e-mail groups. Analyze internal administrative policies, procedures and management processes of the office through independent reviews, extensive research and analysis. Ensure that personnel are furnished with appropriate technology hardware, that all hardware issues are resolved in a timely manner, and that all software related issues are referred to the appropriate entities. Maintain internal/standard operating procedures and policies related to the various administrative functions performed. Provide assistance on a variety of special and ad hoc projects. Work in collaboration with other District staff on a variety of administrative assignments related to human resources, payroll and administrative initiatives.

To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, applicants must have: One (1) full year of graduate level education; or Superior Academic Achievement; or One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the federal service.


To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have: Master's or equivalent graduate degree; or Two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal service. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for both grade levels. Graduate education: Education at the graduate level in an accredited college or university in the amounts shown above meets the requirements. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1-year of full-time study requirement. Superior Academic Achievement: Superior academic achievement is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. (1) Class Standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. (2) Grade-Point Average - Applicants must have a grade-point average of: a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. (3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience should demonstrate knowledge of administrative policies and processes and the skill to plan, schedule, coordinate and monitor administrative and programmatic assignments.
