JOB SUMMARY:

Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) is the nation’s fully accredited federal school of medicine and graduate school of nursing. Its education, research and consultation programs are unique, related directly to military medicine, tropical diseases, disaster medicine, military medical readiness and adaptation to extreme environments. We prepare outstanding scientists and health care practitioners for careers in service to the nation.

This position is located in the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine, Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics (APG). APG is responsible for teaching anatomical and physiological principles and their application, as well as the principles of the scientific method, to medical, graduate, and postgraduate students.  The Department is also responsible for the conduct of scientific research in current areas of interest and the professional exchange of findings.

As a Student Trainee (Program Support Assistant/OA), you will be primarily responsible for providing clerical administrative support to the Department of APG’s faculty and staff members.

The Pathways Intern Program is a work experience that provides an opportunity for college students to pursue work that is relevant and beneficial to their academic studies.  Work assignments are of limited scope and complexity, designed to assist the trainee in their career development.  Trainees provide assistance to higher level personnel performing very routine clerical tasks.  Assignments are carried out in accordance with specific instructions and direction.  Trainees become familiar with the operation, design characteristics, maintenance procedures and standard use of equipment.

 

The program is an excellent opportunity for college undergraduate students to get an interesting, real-world experience while contributing to the defense of our nation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.  

 

To qualify for this position you must meet at least one of the following:

 

  • Successful completion of four academic years of post-high school study or completed four academics years of pre-professional study OR

 

  • Successful completion of four academic years of post-high school study or completed four academics years of pre-professional study within 9 months from the closing date of this announcement. 

This position has Selective Placement Factors (screen-outs), which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Applicants not possessing these Selective Placement Factors will be found ineligible for this position. The Selective Placement Factors are:

QUALIFYING EDUCATION:

1) A high school whose curriculum has been  approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such a body or a State; and

2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:

(i) A technical or vocational school;

(ii) A 2-year or 4-year college or university;

(iii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or

(iv) A home-school curriculum

 

Must be enrolled as a degree-seeking student

Must be taking at least a half-time academic course load, as defined by the school

 

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements, if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
