The Licensed Practical Nurse position is located at the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Binghamton, NY.   The Clinic is opened Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  The LPN will be part of the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) focused on enhancing the Veteran's clinic experience through improved access and coordination of services.  The LPN works under the clinical direction of a RN and is responsible for observing, recording and reporting changes in the patient's condition.  The LPN performs, reports and records care provided in the Primary Care Clinic that includes, but is not limited to:

  • Takes and records vital sign, weight, height.
  • Medication administration.
  • Clinical reminders with appropriate consults and alerts.
  • Verifies expiration dates of medication, equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in diagnostic/medical procedures.
  • Monitors patient during procedures.
  • Prepares examining rooms. 
  • Positions patient ensuring comfort and privacy.
  • Provides patient and their families with health and wellness information.
  • Informs provider of changes in patient's condition.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. 
  • Performs phlebotomy procedures
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Relocation expenses are not authorized.

  • At least one year of LPN/LVN experience.

GS-5:  A minimum of one year of LPN/LVN experience that demonstrates knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.

GS-6:  Two or more years of progressively higher level LPN/LVN experience (e.g., work in primary care, medical/surgical nursing, specialty clinic).  Ability to appropriately carry out assigned patient care based on the patients' condition(s), uses judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; and accurately recognizes, reports and record relevant patient information.  Completed work only needs a general review by the RN or MD.
