The Medical Support Assistant is assigned to the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Clare, MI to perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties associated with screening, advising, and assisting Veterans and other beneficiaries seeking and receiving medical treatment. Acts as an assistant to professional staff, ensuring clinical staff are relieved of administrative duties. Acts as liaison between clinical staff members and assists them in providing direct patient care. Assistants may be assigned to work a specific window or area, but are required to be efficient in all areas, and rotation will be expected. Typing is a requirement in this position.

 

Incumbent normally works Monday through Friday, but is expected to work several holidays throughout the year and rotate Saturdays, as needed. Will work various shifts, as assigned, which may be between 7:00 a.m. (beginning) and 5:00 p.m. (ending). May perform duties in all areas of the CBOC, as assigned, including covering at another CBOC.

General Experience: One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position.

 

OR

 

Education: Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

 

 

Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants, who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements. An example is having more than One (1) year as a Medical Receptionist.

 

The candidate’s salary and grade will be determined by the Professional Standards Board (PSB).  The PSB is a peer review process.  The PSB will review the candidate’s individual qualifications, education, professional training/internship(s) and professional experience to determine the most appropriate salary and grade based on your individual accomplishments.
