Major Duties:

 

  • Participate in the development, evaluation, and enhancement of timely, accurate, and efficient Center signal management policies and procedures. 

 

  • Lead the timely analysis, solution development, and resolution of newly identified postmarket safety issues through the management of cross-Center, product area focused signal review meetings and/or issue specific cross-Center teams (i.e. expert working groups).

 

  • Ensure accountability for the signal management process by overseeing the documentation and tracking of individual postmarket safety signals within a product class or set of classes, throughout their life-cycle and interacting with management from within the Center as needed. 

 

  • Coordinate the preparation of issue papers, reports, presentations and briefings on emerging postmarket safaety issues to inform Office and Center management and other interested parties including external stakeholders, and advisory committees, among others. 

 

  • Participate in professional activities to maintain and enhance scientific, communications, and leadership capabilities and knowledge.

Qualifications:

 

For the General Health Scientist, GS-601-14 position, you must have:

 

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Examples include significant experience with the following: Expertise on communication, sufficient to coordinate with expert scientific and regulatory teams in the analysis, resolution and monitoring of postmarket safety issues involving medical devices.  Experience performing work utilizing principles of leadership and management, risk communication, science, and public health.  Experience utilizing principles, theory and clinical applications of medicine and science as they relate to medical devices.  Expertise on medical and scientific literature and current clinical and research related to medical device issues.


 

Documenting experience:  In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description.  Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.


This position has a positive education requirement.  In addition of meeting the required specialized experience (as described under specialized experience), you must also meet the education requirement listed below:

 

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements in the health sciences or allied sciences or appropriate combination of education and experience - core of educational credit, plus additional education and/or experience.

 

Foreign Education:  If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.  For further information, visit: http://www.ed.gov.
