This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  As a Mission Support Assistant, you will provide substantive clerical support in one or more of the administrative support areas (e.g., finance and budget, logistics and procurement, human resources, records and files management, etc.). Duties include:

  • Performing office automation work and using computer software, e.g., spreadsheets, databases, and graphics, to produce, store and retrieve a variety of documents;
  • Monitoring, coordinating and maintaining a variety of office files and records;
  • Extracting, compiling and manipulating data to determine if trends or patterns exist;
  • Coordinating requests for services from users and completing necessary forms;
  • Procuring routine equipment and services; and maintaining tracking systems of transactions.

GS-5: You qualify for the GS-5 level if you possess one of the following:

  • One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level gathering data for routine reports, maintaining transaction logs, maintaining office files and records, ordering routine equipment and services, typing office documents, reviewing forms and other documents for completeness, and preparing graphs and charts; OR
  • A bachelor's degree or Successful completion of a full four-year course of study above the high school level in any field from an accredited college or university; OR
  • A combination of successfully completed creditable education and specialized experience, the total of which equals at least one year. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

GS-6: You qualify at the GS-6 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level:

  • Preparing a variety of administrative program documents and reports;
  • Monitoring transactions, maintaining records, processing requests for services and resolving discrepancies; and
  • Providing routine program information to users.

GS-7: You qualify at the GS-7 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level:

  • Coordinating administrative requirements with offices served;
  • Maintaining contact with offices having primary responsibility for administrative programs and obtaining most up-to-date information on procedural requirements;
  • Providing procedural assistance on routine administrative matters;
  • Maintaining databases and identifying trends or patterns; and
  • Compiling a variety of reports.

Typing Certification: You must be able to type at least 40 words per minute (wpm). You may self-certify that you meet this requirement by submitting a statement that you can type this speed.

Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

Time in Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade in the Federal service.  Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

  3. Qualified:  Applicants possessing the basic qualifications, with general knowledge, skills, and abilities.
