JOB SUMMARY:

This is an Air Reserve Technician Enlisted position.

Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.  In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position is the overall management of the training program within an Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) Civil Engineer (CE) Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer (RED HORSE) Squadron (RHS).  Incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:

 

  • Plan, direct, and control the RED HORSE unit training programs to  ensure combat readiness.
  • Initiate and conduct a testing program for personnel to determine specific training needs.
  • Plan and outline training program for work center managers.
  • Manage unit's On the Job (OJT) and skill level training programs.
  • Prepare training schedules and course enrollments for unit members.
  • Manage Ancillary Training program.
  • Conduct comprehensive trainee orientation.

You must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or equivalent qualifying pay band or other pay systems in the Federal Government that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position. Typically we would find this work experience within a military training environment managing Formal Training Schools, Career Development Courses (CDC), Professionial Military Education (PME), Air Force Testing, On the Job (OTJ) program and other prescribed training.  (To be creditable, specialized experience must meet the above quality level requirements).

Substitution of Education:  Master's Degree or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or OR  LL.B or J.D., in a relevant field of study (e.g., Education). This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Training Specialist and is related to the duties of this position. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (3) Must be able to obtain and maintain a  security clearance as designated for this position. (4) This is a drug testing designated position and incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:

Applications will be processed for rating after the close date of this announcement.  Processing time for applications is several weeks from the close date of this announcement.  Applicants will receive a Notice of Results (NOR) via Application Manager approximately 2 days after the announcement closes.  The rating on this NOR will be based strictly on your answers to the questionnaire.  You will receive another NOR via email once your application is rated by a Human Resources Specialist which may reflect a different rating from the initial notice.  Qualified candidates may be referred to the selecting official for further consideration.
