This is a part-time, TEMPORARY Student Internship opportunity, Not-to-Exceed 2 years under the Pathways Intern Program. 

 

Organizational Location: This position is located in the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, Office of Human Capital and Training, Washington, DC (Judiciary Square Building).

Relocation Expenses: USCIS will not pay your relocation expenses.

This position is in the bargaining unit.

This position is not considered "essential" for purposes of reporting to work when the facility might otherwise be closed.

Note: USCIS may fill one or more positions using this vacancy.

    As a Pathways Student Intern, you will help USCIS design and expand our SharePoint collaboration system to:

  • Provide collaboration workplaces to: make it easier to find documents, manage versions of documents, track projects and tasks.

  • Adjust user permissions so that, in select cases, access or contribute rights are limited.

  • Link documents from the collaboration side (behind the scenes) to our agency intranet, allowing individuals to revise documents and then publish them to the intranet once we reach consensus on a change.

  • Create automated registration systems for our training courses that route applications for approval.

  • Analyze business processes and recommend automation if that can improve quality or efficiency.

  • Produce job aids/guides to assist users.

And we are constantly looking for other ways to use SharePoint features.

 

This position permits someone with web services background to gain experience on a wide-variety of projects. USCIS uses SharePoint 2010.

 

 

Ideal candidates for these internships are individuals pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree programs in business administration or management, information technology / information systems and human resources management. Candidates will be considered on the basis of the applicability of their education and experience to specific USCIS assignments.

To be eligible for an Internship opportunity you must meet one of the following criteria:

 

YOU MUST BE A CURRENT STUDENT ENROLLED AT LEAST HALF TIME IN:

  • An accredited College (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges)
  • A Professional, technical, vocational, and trade school
  • An advanced degree program
  • Or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualification degree or certificate.

 

Applicants must meet requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-5: 4 years above high school or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-4 AND enrolled at least half-time in a degree granting program in an accredited institution.

 

GS-7: 1 year of graduate level education or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-5 AND enrolled at least half-time in a degree granting program in an accredited institution.

 

You MUST retain status as a student for the duration of this program. Your initial appointment is for 1 year. This appointment can be extended for 1 additional year, not to exceed a total of 2 years.


Special Instructions for Foreign Education: Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part in foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree. A listing of these accredited organizations can be found on the Department of Education's website - http://www.ed.gov/international/usnei/us/workrecog.doc. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation with a course by course listing along with your application. Failure to provide such documentation when requested will result in lost consideration.
