The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) currently has an opening for an Education Technician to work in the DoDEA Education Liaison Office. DoDEA is Field Activity responsible for the oversight of two distinct educational systems, the Defense Dependents' Education System, known as the Department of Defense Dependents' Schools (DoDDS), which is DoDEA's overseas school system, and the DoD Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS), which is DoDEA's domestic school system.  DoDEA employs more than 13,500 individuals responsible for the education of more than 88,000 students in schools located in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam and Puerto Rico; DoDEA's mission is to provide a quality education from pre- kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments.

 

DoDEA employees and other federal employees in the excepted service must apply DEU, open to all U.S. citizens.

Major Duties:

 

- Develop educational report formats and statistical procedures.
- Practice in the concepts and principles of distance learning instruction.
- Maintain inventory records.
- Monitors the development and award of contracting actions.
- Assist in special projects pertaining to educational matters.
- Assists with all aspects of education training, including curricula, accreditation, and certification.
- Convert spreadsheet data into charts, graphs, and report formats.
- Develops macro spreadsheets by setting up format and sequence of functions.
- Using educational resources, prepare information for inclusion in various reports, presentations, and initiatives.
- Gather background material, files and reports.
- Assist in conducting literature reviews to achieve and maintain well-balanced program operations.
- Provides assistance in the implementation of approved recommendations for increased effectiveness and efficiency.
- Update, revise, calculates and manipulates data in spreadsheets to meet multiple report formats.
- Respond to questions, inquiries, and incoming mail requiring an in-depth knowledge of organizational mission and policies.
- Assists in conference arrangements.
- Research conference facilities and equipment to prepare statements of work for review by agency’s management officials.
- Participates with agency management officials in developing, coordinating, and monitoring the overall budget of the agency. 
- Maintain ongoing communication with fiscal and procurement officials to track the agency’s obligations and expenses.

In accordance with the Qualifications Standards for General Schedule (GS) Positions under the General Coverage forAdministrative and Management Positions, the following is being provided to you. This position requires 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level.  You must meet time-in-grade  requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Examples of specialized experience include: Developing educational report formats and statistical procedures; and Assisting with all aspects of education training, including curricula, accreditation, and certification.

Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:

  

1. Knowledge of methods and procedures, management practices, and agency policies and programs to design, coordinate, and execute a full range of educational program duties.

2. Ability to understand, and assemble into useable form information gathered in terms of assigned responsibilities, and to explain findings and present recommendations.

3. Ability to communicate to upper level management and senior officials.


SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION:  Graduate education may be substituted for specialized experience. This education must be from an accredited college or university accredited by an organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education. See http://www.ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx. For this position at the GS-9 level, Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if directly related, may be substituted for experience.

 

One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.

 

If substituting education for experience, transcripts must be provided. Failure to provide transcripts will result in you being rated ineligible for this position. We accept unofficial transcripts, as long as they contain the applicant’s name, the name of the school, the date and degree that was awarded, and the list of classes and credits earned.
