This position is located in Cornish, NH within the Division of Resource Management and Maintenance at Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site and reports to the Division Chief.

The primary purpose of the position requires mainly physical ability and effort of varying difficulty to accomplish a series of assigned tasks necessary to maintain park buildings, grounds and restroom facilities.  Continuous physical effort required, with some lifting of moderately heavy objects.  Stooping, bending, stretching, and climbing ladders are inherent to the job.

Perform the full range of custodial duties including: sweeping, scrubbing, waxing and polishing various types of floors and surfaces, maintaining various types of floor coverings using vacuums and carpet cleaning machines; removing stains from a variety of surfaces using chemicals and cleaning agents; dusting, cleaning, and polishing furniture; washing windows, drapes, walls, ceilings, woodwork, etc.; cleaning, sanitizing, and deodorizing restrooms and other facilities; stocking and replacing cleaning supplies, etc.; cleaning stoves, refrigerators, and exhaust vents as required; emptying, washing, and sanitizing waste cans, collecting and disposing of trash.  Some grounds keeping work may also be performed.

Conducts monthly inventories of supplies, materials, and equipment needed to accomplish custodial work.  Recommends the use of specific environmentally friendly/green cleaning products to supervisor.  Requisitions supplies and materials in advance to avoid depleting all inventories.  Maintains supply rooms in a neat and orderly manner.

Physical Effort: Requires moderately to heavy physical effort frequently handling, lifting an carrying objects up to 50 pounds.  Physical effort requires frequently lifting, pushing, loading, shoveling, and bending to handle, place and transport materials.

Working Conditions: Work is both indoors and outdoors.  While areas normally have adequate heat, light and ventilation; collection storage areas temperatures are cool.  Work exposes incumbent to dirt and infrequently disagreeable odors.  Normally there is a chance of only minor injuries (cuts, bruises).  When working on the grounds and doing buildings maintenance, worker can be exposed to all kinds of weather and temperatures.  There is also a greater chance of serious injury such as falls, cuts, bruises, and broken bones.

Area Information: Saint-Gaudens NHS is located in Cornish, NH, which is a rural area.  The nearest community is Windsor, Vermont, which is three miles away.  It has a population of approximately 3, 500 and the usual amenities, i.e. hospital, churches, lodging, stores, transportation, etc.  Larger nearby communities include West Lebanon, NH (11 miles north) and Claremont, NH (10 miles south).  Temperatures range from -10F to+40F in the winter and +50F to +95F in the summer.  Precipitation is approximately 35 inches annually.  The park is open from Memorial Day weekend to the end of October.

For WG: Applicants must be physically fit and, as required in Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Handbook X-118C, must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. Requirements

1.National Park Service (NPS) uniformed position. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with NPS uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided to defray the cost of the uniform.

2. Upon review of all qualified applicants, a tentative offer will be made pending the satisfactory completion of a background investigation.

3. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your rating will be based on both your responses to the Job Assessment Questionnaire and the information stated in your resume. The assessment questions relate to the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs)/competencies that are required to perform the work of this position. Only education and experience acquired by the closing filing deadline will be considered.

 You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".

Category rating procedures will be used to rate and rank candidates. Candidates will be ranked into 3 categories:
Category Group I (Best Qualified) - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position.  
Category Group II (Well Qualified) - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job.
Category Group III (Qualified) - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all of the requirements of the job.

VETERANS PREFERENCE: Veterans Preference applies to category rating. Within each quality category, veteran's preference eligibles are listed first, including CP, CPS, XP, and TP. In addition, veterans who have a 10% or more service-connected compensable disability (CP or CPS) are placed at the top of the highest quality category. Applicants referred are listed on the selection certificate alphabetically (veteran's preference eligibles before non-veterans) without scores.
