This position is located at the Alumni and Mahan Hall, United States Naval Academy.   As an Auditorium Techniciain, you will serve as a developmental trainee, receiving on-the-job training and possible formal classroom instruction in order to prepare you for career progression to the full performance level.  As a full performance Auditorium Technician, you will be responsible for supporting the maintenance, set-up, breakdown and operation of the auditorium audio-video, lighting, computer and theatrical systems. 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

As an Auditorium Technician, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

·        Operating audio, lighting and theatrical equipment essential to events occurring at Alumni and Mahan Hall (A&MH).

·        Assisting in the identification of when maintenance or contract maintenance is required on audio, lighting, rigging systems, and other support systems.

·        Arranging equipment and patches; hanging colors, and operating the system during auditorium events and stage productions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.  

 

To qualify for this position you must meet the following:

 

For the GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-05) in the Federal service assisting in the setup, breakdown, or operation of equipment used for events located in an auditorium or theater. Examples of qualifying experience may include: setting up specified support equipment needed for a theatrical production; operating lighting systems in accordance to detailed lighting plans for an event; or properly storing auditorium support equipment upon completion of an event.

 

For the GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-06) in the Federal service operating and maintaining support equipment used for events located in an auditorium or theater. Examples of qualifying experience may include: organizing support equipment needed for a theatrical production; operating audio systems during a stage production; identifying required maintenance on audio, lighting, and rigging systems; or coordinating the maintenance servicing with technicians.

 

This position has a Selective Placement Factor (screen-out), which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Applicants not possessing the Selective Placement Factor will be found ineligible for this position. The Selective Placement Factor is: 

 

·         Currently residing within a 50 mile radius (local commuting area) of Annapolis, MD.

 

This position has a Quality Ranking Factor that will be used to differentiate best qualified candidates. The Quality Ranking Factor is: A cumulative college grade point average of 2.95 or better prior to entrance on duty.

 

ELIGIBILITY:

Recent graduates who have completed (or will complete within 9 months of the closing date of this announcement), within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.

 

Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree completion to apply.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:

·       Orientation program

·       Mentorship throughout the Program.

·       Individual Development Plan to assist with career planning, professional development, and training activities.

·       At least 40 hours of formal, interactive training each year of the Program.

·       Positions may offer opportunity for career advancement.

 

AFTER PROGRAM COMPLETION:

Recent Graduates may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances a term appointment lasting 1-4 years).

 

To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must have:

·       Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.

·       Demonstrated successful job performance.

·       Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted.

 


QUALIFYING EDUCATION:

1) A high school whose curriculum has been  approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such a body or a State; and

2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:

(i) A technical or vocational school;

(ii) A 2-year or 4-year college or university;

(iii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or

(iv) A home-school curriculum

 

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and climbing. 

 

This position requires frequent lifting of heavy items such as tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 50 pounds.

 

This position requires work to be conducted at heights up to 75 feet.

 

This position requires climbing ladders and walking on catwalks.

 

Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

 

Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

 

The job often requires irregular hours.
