JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

ARMY RECENT GRADUATES PROGRAM: The Army Recent Graduates Programs provides individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs with developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service. Participants must have obtained a degree, or completed a qualifying career or technical education program within the preceding 2 years. Eligible veterans, however, can apply up to six years after completing a qualifying degree or certificate program.

Individuals who are currently enrolled or graduated within the previous two years from an accredited institution and have completed an  associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate.

a Veteran who was precluded from applying in the two year period due to a military service obligation, and is within 6 years of graduation from an accredited institution that has completed an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate.

This position serves in an entry level capacity in the Career Intern Program # 10. The position will perform duties characteristic of the specific occupational series for a 1035 Public Affairs Specialist. Generally the incumbent performs duties designed to provide an orientation in the application of theories and basic principles and practices in support of this specialized occupational area.

Candidate will be in a structured training program until graduation.

General experience: To qualify applicants must possess at least one of the following:

At the GS-4 level or equivalent in the Federal service: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. (Transcripts are required with your application).

Academic year of undergraduate education:

A minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours at an accredited college or university; or
A minimum of 36 weeks at an accredited business, technical, vocational, or qualifying educational institution for at least 20 classroom hours per week. 

At the GS-5 level or equivalent in the Federal service: Completion of 4 full academic years of post-high school study or a bachelor's degree. (Transcripts are required with your application).

Academic year of undergraduate education:

A minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter hours at an accredited college or university; or
A minimum of 72 weeks at an accredited business, technical, vocational, or qualifying educational institution for at least 20 classroom hours per week. 

 

Your course of study must be directly related to Public Affairs.

PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION:

·        Interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program;

·        To be eligible for conversion, Interns must:

o    Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program

o    Complete their degree or certificate requirements

o    Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted

o    Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and

o    Perform their job successfully;

·        Agencies may waive up to 320 of the required 640 hours of work for Interns who demonstrate high potential as evidenced by outstanding academic achievement and exceptional job performance;

·        In addition, students working in agencies through third-party intern providers may count up to 320 of the hours they work toward the 640 hour requirement;

·        Time spent under previous Internship Program appointments may count towards required work experience hours.

 

QUALIFYING EDUCATION:

1) A high school whose curriculum has been  approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such a body or a State; and

2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:

(i) A technical or vocational school;

(ii) A 2-year or 4-year college or university;

(iii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or

(iv) A home-school curriculum

 

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
