Duties:  As a Pharmacy Technician Student you will be located in the Pharmacy department of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Erie, PA.  The incumbent will perform technical support work in a pharmacy under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.  Duties include:

  •  Packaging and assembling drugs and supplies
  •  Ordering, receiving and storing pharmaceuticals
  •  Performing bulk compounding
  •  Performing sterile or intravenous additive solutions
  •  Setting up prescriptions for final check by staff Pharmacists
  •  Replenishing selected pharmaceuticals on inpatient units and other areas using ward stock.

 

Work Schedule:   The scheduled hours of operation in the Pharmacy are Monday through Friday,  7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Work schedules will be coordinated around the student's class schedule.

 

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are NOT authorized for this position.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

  • U.S. citizenship.  
  • Education or experience
  • Pre-employment physical 
  • English Language Proficiency
  • Age - Must be at least 16 years of age

 

Education  - Candidates must be enrolled at least half time in an approved Pharmacy/Pharmacy Technician training or educational program.

 

In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

1.  Ability to process and fill prescriptions under supervision.

2.  Ability to operate and maintain dispensing equipment.

3.  Ability to operate pharmacy information systems.

4.  Ability to maintain appropriate files.

5.  Ability to prepare sterile compounds under supervision.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  The work involves standing for long periods of time and requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and lifting moderately heavy items.

A student is an individual who has been accepted for enrollment or who is enrolled and seeking a degree in a school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body, or in a technical or vocational school, 2 year or 4-year college or university, or graduate or professional school, that has been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.

 

TRANSCRIPTS:  Applicants must submit a copy of college transcripts (unofficial transcripts will be accepted with applications for employment; however, if selected, official transcripts will be required before a start date can be established for the position).  This transcript must include a listing of the courses you have taken or are currently taking.
