NOTE:  The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12.  The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-12.  The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate's education and experience, and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed.  The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

Position Title, series & grade: Pharmacist 0660-12


  • Initiates/provides clinical pharmacy/pharmacotherapeutics services to patient care/practice area as assigned.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and applies evidence-based literature to specific patient situations. 
  • Maintains knowledge base by keeping current with information on new medications, guidelines, innovations in pharmacy practice, and integrating this information into daily practice.
  • Knows and can discuss the pathophysiology of major disease states likely to be seen in the course of daily practice.
  • Develops individualized dosing regimen, based on the pharmacokinetics of drug(s) employed, status of renal and/or hepatic function, and other pertinent parameters of patient.
  • Analyzes medication regimen for potential adverse drug reactions, interactions, or contraindications.
  • Attends rounds and/or clinic sessions, attends staff meetings, and patient care conferences for assigned practice areas.
  • Responsible for participating in all educations services and activities of pharmacy department.
  • Supports medical center efforts to construct and maintain use of a formulary that promotes safe and cost-effective use of medications.
  • Responsible for participation in assigned pharmacoeconomic out programs.

  • U.S. Citizenship
    • Graduate of a degree program in Pharmacy from an approved college or university approved by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
    • Completion of equivalent of 1 year creditable experience at GS-11 grade level or completion of 1 year post-PharmD ASHP accredited residency.
    • Full, current and unrestricted license to practice Pharmacy. 


  • Must have one (1) year experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.

Must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

1. Knowledge of professional pharmacy practice.

2. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to both patients and health care staff.

3. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and accreditation standards related to the distribution and control of scheduled and non-scheduled drugs and pharmacy security.

4. Skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters.
